This is a temporary-to-direct hire opportunity, starting immediately, for an experienced Legal Assistant or Paralegal who is eager to contribute their expertise and grow with a reputable Calgary firm.

This position requires an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Assistant or Paralegal with a strong background in Real Estate Law. The successful candidate will manage real estate files from open to close, ensuring all deadlines are met with precision and efficiency. This role is ideal for someone who can step in immediately, manage a busy workload with minimal supervision, and confidently support the firm's real estate practice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The key job functions are:

  • Open and manage purchase, sale, and refinance files from start to finish.
  • Draft and prepare all necessary legal documents related to real estate transactions.
  • File annual returns and complete required corporate filings.
  • Support lawyers with estate law forms and related documentation.
  • Manage and maintain client correspondence using Microsoft Outlook, Spin, PCLaw, and Lawyer Done Deal.
  • Prioritize competing tasks and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, lenders, and real estate agents to ensure smooth file completion.
  • Work independently and demonstrate accountability for assigned work.
Education:
  • Formal legal education is not required for this role. Equivalent experience in a legal assistant or paralegal capacity within a real estate law environment is essential.
Qualifications:
  • Strong working knowledge of Real Estate Law, including purchases, sales, and refinances.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume files efficiently with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Spin, PCLaw, and Lawyer Done Deal.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and client service orientation.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal specializing in Real Estate Law is required.
  • Experience handling full file management independently is essential.
  • Exposure to estate or corporate law is considered an asset.
Skills:
  • Strong technical aptitude and familiarity with legal software programs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.
  • Proactive problem solver with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Confident communicator with both clients and colleagues.
  • Organized, efficient, and able to adapt to changing priorities in a busy environment.
  • Dependable and takes ownership of assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Base Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes potential for permanent placement following a successful temporary term.
Work Hours:
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (40 hours per week).
