We are looking for an experienced Paint/Blast Team Lead
to join our shipyard's diverse team of painters, sandblasters, welder/fabricators, mechanics, machinists, and woodworkers. The Team Lead for our marine painters and sandblasters is a lead-by-example role responsible for preparing, sandblasting, painting, and finishing a wide variety of marine vessels and industrial fabrication projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on painter/blaster with experience in marine painting/blasting, and in directing and mentoring team members with a positive team-building leadership style.
Responsibilities
All aspects of preparing, blasting, painting, and finishing marine vessels and industrial fabrication projects
Provide daily leadership and direction for a team of 3 to 6 painters/blasters with a lead-by-example approach to fully engage and support the team
Train, coach, and mentor to improve the skills, quality, and efficiency of the paint/blast team
Ensure a high level of safety, quality, and attention to detail
Assist with estimating, and determining the required surface preparation and type/ number of paint coats
Ensure paints, solvents, and other coatings are mixed and applied according to specific formulas and application guidelines
Perform quality control inspections and data collection to ensure adhesion, coverage, and finish
Operate blasting and spray equipment, and perform brush/roll/masking tasks as required
Operate rust removal (hand and pneumatic) tools
Equipment maintenance and organization of blast/paint materials storage areas
Collaborate with the shipyard supervisor and other personnel
Engage in Bracewell Marine's continuous improvement culture, with an emphasis on continuous improvement of our blast and paint team capabilities
Be actively involved in our lean manufacturing and leadership training initiatives
Skills and Experience
Required: 5+ years of marine/industrial painting
Required: Experience with wet and dry blasting
Asset: Knowledge of paint and coating standards (SSPC, NACE, AAMP)
Asset: Certifications - CAS I or II, C7 Abrasive, C12 Spray Applications, C14 Marine, Red Seal Painter
Required: Excellent communicator (written and oral) and proven ability to lead people
Required: Ability to read customer specifications, engineering drawings, and industry material specification sheets
Required: Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship
Asset: Driver's license
Required: Ability to work at heights, outdoors, and in confined spaces
Full-time, permanent, available immediately, Monday - Friday, 8-hour daytime shifts
$40-45 per hour - rate depends on experience and certifications
