Job Description

Bright Star Counselling is currently looking for a PEDIATRIC OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST or Occupational Assistant with registration with a professional college/organization. At least 1 year + experience working children with special needs. Preference given to those registered with Autsim Funding RASP list. The candidate would join the busy clinic that is currently staffed by 3 registered social workers 17 RCC and 2 OT. The position is for3- 5 days a week to provide private OT assessment, sensory profile assessment and supporting children and families with self regulation and social skills strategies. There is an already full time established case load.

Work with clients and their families to set OT goals which are occupation focused and are targeted, measurable outcomes Provide direct service, consultation, mediation and education to client, family and community providers with a focus on maximizing a child's function in the areas of self-care; productivity (school and play skills) and leisure (community participation) and self regulations strategies in the home. Utilize research to establish and support evidence-based practice Provision of in-school consultations to parents and/or teachers as and when needed Meeting with community mental health staff, family doctors and school based staffed for community and school planning Conductiong sensory assessments Fine and gross skills support and development.
The work is based on referrals that come through the clinic - clinic has an excellent reputation and strong relationships with family doctors, nurses, and community associations with a strong referral base.

This is a split fee position.

Full time admin support, computer, fax /printer, booking appointments, office booking software, email and confidential software to record session notes and financials are included.

Access to supervision is an option, as is being part of weekly peer supervision meetings. Training opportunities are also available.

The ideal candidate has a passion for treating families, is creative and a self starter, confident treating high conflict families and not afraid of triaging and managing various treatment needs. This is a great opportunity for a practitioner would likes to work in private practice, without the admin work, advertising and cost of building a practice alone, and who enjoys working as part of a multi-disciplinary supportive and fun team!
