The Packager is responsible for the packaging of finished products to prepare them for shipping and distribution. They contribute to overall lasagna production needs in a way that promotes a positive work environment, as well as successful execution of production quotas and maintaining food safety standards.
In addition, the Packager promotes organizational mission and goals, and shows the way to achieve them, as well as influences others to act in support of ideas, programs, and initiatives while getting the team excited about and committed to furthering the organization's objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the packaging of finished lasagna products in accordance with Company standard operating procedures, policies, and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations
Utilize various tools and processing equipment including the packaging line and others as required
Verify that finished materials meet quality standards of the company by utilizing appropriate quality assurance techniques and tests as directed
Sanitize all materials and machinery parts at the end of each shift and clean the workspace by following company and CFIA cleanliness standards
Responsible for adhering to Food Safety, GMP's, and CFIA standards at all times
Evaluate operation and condition of equipment and reporting maintenance issues to the Packaging Lead Hand, or Plant Manager in their absence, as needed
Ability to work at a fast pace to achieve expected production quotas
Maintain an organized work station including packaging room and warehousing area
Strive to uphold a safe working environment and be health & safety conscious; actively involved in maintaining and improving a safe work environment
Ensure Carmen's Group and brand standards are upheld on a daily basis in accordance with the Marketing team
Comply with company policies and procedures, especially health and safety rules, use of personal protective equipment and WHMIS
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Food Handlers Certificate an asset
Equipment
Production equipment includes but is not limited to: packaging line, commercial pots, mixers, and grinders
Various knives and mixing/blending equipment and tools
Dishwasher
Ability to operate a forklift and other warehouse equipment an asset
Experience
One to two years food manufacturing experience, preferably in packaging and warehousing operations, an asset
Experience in a HACCP approved food manufacturing facility an asset
Excellent oral communication skills required
Positive interpersonal skills required
Understanding of food handling and sanitation standards
LINES OF COMMUNICATION
Reporting Relationship
This position reports directly to the Plant Manager, Mercanti Specialty Foods. Work is controlled through occasional checking of accuracy, quality, and adherence to detailed instructions or through the structured nature of the work itself. Some discretion in decision making may be exercised within predetermined limits and procedures.
