4 days / 30 hours per week

Reports to the Program Manager. The Youth Outreach Worker provides information, support, referrals, and advocacy to assist individuals in making positive changes in their lives. In addition, the Youth Outreach Worker helps youth and families navigate government and community systems to receive the support they need.

Position Responsibilities



Connect with individuals in Boyle Street Community Services' Youth Program and supports them in obtaining basic needs Deliver crisis intervention as needed, including follow-up until the situation has stabilized. Assess youth and determine immediate needs; assist and supports clients to develop a case plan and to take positive steps to achieve their goals; makes referrals and advocates on behalf of youth clients as appropriate. Maintain accurate and comprehensive written documentation for youth Provide guidance, referral and support with culture events and ceremonial opportunities Resolve issues that are both immediate in nature and a concern when supporting youth in their transition to independence Utilize a strength-based and harm reduction approach when working with youth who are experiencing addiction, mental health, and impoverishment barriers Respond to overdoses and other related crisis by following the proper protocol Ensure all data collection and reporting are carried out in an efficient and timely manner. BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications



Post Secondary Degree in a relevant field of study or a technical certificate program. (e.g., FLMI, CEBS, ICA) and/or relevant work experience Minimum 2 years of experience in social work or experience working with high risk youth Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course Valid Class 5 Non GDL license and access to a reliable vehicle
