Outreach Support Worker (casual)

Job Description

We are looking for a few folks to compliment our existing staffing with the Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph Outreach Van Programs.

This is a casual position, meaning hours of work will vary and are not guaranteed. The successful candidate will be called upon to cover shifts on an as-needed basis, which may include daytime and evening hours. Casual employees are a valued part of our team, providing essential coverage and continuity of service during staff absences or periods of increased demand.

About Sanguen Health Centre



Sanguen Health Centre exists to improve individual and community well-being by providing health and social care for people who face barriers to accessing traditional supports. This includes people living with HCV, people who use drugs, those experiencing homelessness and equity deserving communities.

Our mission is to meet the needs of those in Waterloo Region and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph living with or at risk of Hepatitis C through the provision of education, outreach, support, and comprehensive, expert medical care.

About the Community Health Van Programs



The Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph/Wellington Community Health Van teams are looking for organized, self-motivated individuals to provide casual support for our team(s). This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to ever-changing community needs.

Responsibilities



Actively engage with community members to build trust and provide support. Accurately track inventory (first in, first out) while keeping supplies sorted and organized Regular light cleaning of work areas Picking up donations on behalf of the mobile teams in Waterloo Region and Guelph/Wellington Participating in outreach activities with the van team(s) in the community Represents Sanguen when working with donors and community partners Participate in community events, as required Drive the Community Health Van, as required

Qualifications



Must be comfortable being around, discussing and working with people who use or have used drugs and compassionate about the barriers faced by people who use drugs, as well as people who are vulnerable, living in poverty and/or experiencing homelessness. Ability to represent Sanguen's values while maintaining positive community relationships. Ability to lift 40+lbs Access to a personal vehicle and be comfortable driving on county roads and in inclement weather conditions Self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision Excellent organizational skills Emergency first aid (or equivalent) and BLS (Health Care Provider level) considered an asset Understanding of Anti-oppression principles and ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age, and economic backgrounds. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days and evenings. Ability to work with racialized populations, Indigenous peoples, women who engage in sex work, prisoners/ex-prisoners, people with mental health challenges, and people who have experienced trauma, is an asset.

In addition, this position requires:



A clear driver's abstract, A satisfactory vulnerable sector check, A valid G-class license and vehicle insurance The ability to work varied and flexible hours As part of our commitment to the health and safety of our staff and community from COVID-19, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Sanguen Health Centre requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.

Hours and Location of Work



Hours will include daytime and evening shifts, depending on coverage that is needed. Hours will be varied.

Providing services in multiple locations, including: 29 Young St (Waterloo), 130 Victoria St (Kitchener), and outreach in the Region of Waterloo and/or Guelph/Wellington.

The successful candidate must be able to travel to and between these locations by personal vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed for travel between work locations within a shift.

Compensation and Other Perks



The compensation for this role will be between $21 and $24 hour, depending on skills, experience Vacation pay
