Out of School Care Coordinator!
The Out of School Care (OSC) Coordinator ensures the effective coordination, implementation, and daily operation of the OSC program. This role supports the OSC Director by driving program quality, staff performance, participant engagement, and regulatory compliance. The coordinator fosters an inclusive, safe, and dynamic environment with a focus on physical activity and healthy lifestyles
Qualifications:
Completed Educational Training/Equivalences to qualify for the Child Development Certification Level 2 or 3 under Alberta's Provincial Licensing is Required
Accepted credentials include:
Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate
Education Degree (Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, General, After-Degree)
Child and Youth Care (Diploma or Degree)
Early Learning and Child Care Diploma
First Aid & CPR Certification (current and valid)
WHMIS Certification
Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search,(current on first day)
Experience/Skills Required:
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in children's programs
Strong leadership and team management abilities
Demonstrated experience with program planning, staff scheduling, and customer care
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher); experience with registration and scheduling systems such as WhenToWork is a strong asset
Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
Minimum 2 years of customer service experience in a recreation or child-care setting
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings or weekends if required
Professional, composed demeanor in high-pressure environments
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Lifting/moving items up to 30 lbs.
Exposure to cleaning supplies and chemicals
Participation in sports, swimming, and field trips
Occasional overtime for staff shortage or emergencies
Plan, organize, and oversee daily program activities to meet participant needs and interests.
Ensure programs promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity.
Support the OSC Director with seasonal program planning, scheduling, and curriculum development.
Monitor program quality and make improvements as needed to achieve positive participant outcomes.
Staff Leadership & Development
Supervise, mentor, and support program staff to ensure high-quality delivery of services.
Manage staff scheduling via WhenToWork.
Conduct staff training, professional development, and performance evaluations.
Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive team culture that enhances staff engagement and retention.
Safety & Well-being
Maintain a secure, safe, and nurturing environment for all participants.
Enforce licensing regulations, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
Conduct regular safety checks and monthly fire drills to ensure compliance and participant safety.
Family & Stakeholder Communication
Maintain professional, timely communication with parents, guardians, staff, and community partners.
Address concerns proactively to maintain high levels of participant and family satisfaction.
Provide regular program updates that demonstrate transparency and accountability.
Administration & Record-Keeping
Maintain accurate program records, attendance, and incident reports to support operational accountability.
Assist with budget tracking, event planning, and field trip coordination.
Ensure documentation supports program evaluation and compliance reporting.
Child Development & Engagement
Design and facilitate age-appropriate activities promoting social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Ensure equitable participation and a positive, engaging program atmosphere.
Monitor and evaluate participant progress to adjust activities and meet developmental objectives.
Collaboration & Problem-Solving
Work closely with the OSC Director, staff, and other departments to achieve operational goals.
Adapt to changes and manage unexpected challenges while maintaining program continuity.
Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies to minimize risk and maintain safety.
