Under the direction of the Program Manager, you will provide quality childcare programs for school age children that support and promote the well-being of each child and respect and reflect the needs of children, families, and the community. We are looking for a flexible, fun, creative, passionate, and caring Educator to join our growing team of dedicated, loving and kind staff members. We are in the beautiful Cadboro Bay neighborhood, close to UVIC and bus routes. We operate out of two Learning Studios and the Frank Hobbs gymnasium, surrounded by many playgrounds, beaches and forests.
Employment Date:
Immediately - June 30th, 2026
o Possibility of extension into our Summer Camp programs. Preference is given to applicants who commit to the full school year, but those who can only commit to the UVic/Camosun Academic year will also be considered.
Salary:
24$/hour +4% in lieu of vacation pay.
Certified Early Childhood Educators are eligible for the 6$/hour ECE Wage Enhancement as part of our licensed childcare programs.
Hours of Work:
2pm - 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. Possibility of 2:30pm start to accommodate afternoon classes for UVic students.
- Program closed for Winter break (Dec 22, 2025 - Jan 2, 2026), Spring Break (March 16 - 20, 2026) and all stats. Additional hours available on Pro-d days and Spring break (March 23 - 27, 2026)
Qualifications
o Must be 19 years of age or older
o Preference to applicants with courses or degree in Education, Child and Youth Care, Recreation Ed., Early Childhood Education, etc.
o A minimum of 20 hours of education/training in the areas of child development, guidance, health, safety, and nutrition
o Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
o Experience working with large groups of school age children in a licensed setting, skilled in group management and supervision
o An acceptable criminal record check
o Ability to sustain attention to multiple situations
o Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with children, staff members and families.
o A love and excitement for working with children, enthusiasm for the job
o Facilitate a fun and engaging afterschool care program for children in grades K-5.
o Flexibility to assist in any group.
o Plan and implement routines that are flexible and responsive to the needs of children and their families. Provide opportunities for a balance of active/quiet and indoor/outdoor experiences.
o Provide a physical environment that is safe, supportive, and inviting participation of children with a range of abilities.
o Follow the Centre's procedures for maintaining health records and administering medication and first aid. This includes reporting all accidents, injuries, and illnesses to the Program Manager.
o Create and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with families through greetings, sharing information and discussions.
o Establish and implement clear, appropriate rules and boundaries for developmentally appropriate behaviour.
o Set reasonable behaviour expectations consistent with the Centre's philosophy and policies.
o Administrative duties when program manager is not present, including but not limited to responding to emails, and communication with parents/guardians.
o Ability to supervise other staff - provide guidance, support, and strategies.
o Ensure licensed childcare programs consider the health and well-being of all children as its highest priority and follows all BC Child Care Licensing Regulations.
o Be an employee representative on the Occupational Health and Safety committee and upholding safe practices in the workplace.
