Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Waste Management Operations (WMO) is responsible for the safe management of various Radiological and Non Radiological waste streams for CNL. WMO's execute surveillance of legacy Waste Management Area's, receive waste from on and off-site generators, retrieve and repackage High to Intermediate Level Waste items, sort waste packages into Near Surface Disposal Facility acceptable waste streams, and provide support to projects across CNL. Waste streams can vary from High, Intermediate and Low Level, Mixed and Hazardous Waste.

The WM Operations Specialist will be required to perform key roles to fulfill operational, surveillance, construction, and commissioning responsibilities. Roles and responsibilities may include the following:

  • Develop knowledge and experience as a subject matter expert in their area(s) of responsibility;
  • Knowledge of facility Conduct of Operations, operational and maintenance control documents and facility lead on structure/system upgrades and modifications;
  • Improve on existing processes and support new initiative through Work Control Document revision/development and provide oversight to field execution;
  • Assist with the development and review of various reports, ensure CSD revisions/Time Limited Amendments are in place in support of operational initiatives, and complete self-assessments promoting continuous improvement;
  • Ensure rigorous oversight and high safety standards for field work execution;
  • Act as a single point of contact between operations and construction projects; and
  • Act as a valuable team member to the WMO team through detailed work planning and frequent field oversight
DUTIES

General Accountabilities
  • Be the technical/operational lead in the development of new WMO initiatives, oversight to established operations and continually seek ways to improve the way WMO operates in an effort to become more effectives in meeting customer demand and company/regulatory requirements.
  • Author, revise and review operational documents (e.g., Work Plans, Operating Procedures, Instruction to Operate, Training Plans).
  • he WMA Operations Specialist works closely with the FA, FM, WMA Nuclear Criticality Control Officer (NCCO) and Waste Services Operations staff to ensure that Facility safety is monitored regularly and continuously improved upon.
  • Ensure facility assets are maintained to ensure safe an effective operational capabilities are on-going.
  • Support the activities of WMA's including fuel transfers, technical support, facility improvements, new builds, system health monitoring, aging management, maintenance and process systems support.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education

At minimum, a Bachelors (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.

Experience

A few years related engineering working experience.

Abilities & Skills

Ability/desire to perform field activities in all environmental conditions.

Strong communications skills to persuade, influence and educate various audiences including operations staff of various backgrounds, clients, supply chain vendors, peers/colleagues and management).

A person who is action oriented with a demonstrated ability to be innovative while adhering to safety, regulatory requirements and client demands.

Job/Industry Specific Knowledge

A strong working knowledge of CNL operations, processing and procedures is an asset.
