OPERATIONS MANAGER

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day Operations; managing and supporting staff, drivers and customers, to obtain optimal customer service, efficiency and profitability.

Location: 505 Avenue Meloche, Dorval, Quebec

Schedule: Monday to Friday, days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Effectively manage the transportation operation in order to meet or exceed established targets
  • Provide high quality warehousing, value and cross dock services to all customers, meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Develop warehouse operations by determining product handling and storage requirements based on customer requirement
  • Ensure dispatch staff allocate drivers and equipment efficiently to meet customer service requirements
  • Lead, mentor and develop team members
  • Ensure dispatch staff is following all internal processes and are compliant with transportation management system, HOS regulations, etc.
  • Maximize lane profitability through planning, sourcing of acceptable loads, and minimization of empty miles
  • Manage customer account(s) in accordance with company\'s policies and procedures to obtain optimal profitability
  • Identify lanes requiring balance and support the Sales team in bringing on new customers/business
  • In conjunction with the Fleet department ensure that equipment is available and maintained to meet business requirements
  • In conjunction with the Human Resources and Safety & Compliance teams, ensure that qualified drivers are meeting company standards at point of hire and on a continuing basis
  • Other duties as required
Experience and Required Skills
  • Bilingual in both French and English
  • Minimum five years Operations management experience in Transportation
  • Minimum of two years Dispatch experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel) and experience with Transportation Management Systems
  • Post secondary diploma in a related field
  • Strong leadership, problem solving and decision-making skills required
  • Client centric mentality
  • Previous sales experience is an asset
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Financial aptitude
  • Ability to multi-task and employ effective time management skills
