Bowen Island Dog Ranch is a well-established, premium dog boarding and training facility serving the greater Vancouver area since 2007. Our 5-acre forested property offers dogs a safe, off-leash, adventure-filled environment and a full range of care, training, and shuttle services to Vancouver and on Bowen Island .
We are seeking a highly organized, experienced, and dog-loving Operations Manager to oversee daily operations, logistics, staff coordination, and customer service. This is a complex job that requires attention to detail, multi-tasking, keeping calm under pressure, and efficient communication. You'll be instrumental in maintaining our high standards of animal care and client satisfaction.
There is an opportunity for the right committed Operations Manager, to live in the 1800 sq. ft., 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom Ranch house, with or without sharing it with other staff members. Rent may subsidized, dependent if you live there full time or part time.
Bowen Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from West Vancouver.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of the facility
Lead, train, and schedule the business's support staff, and continue staff development and HR compliance
Oversee boarding, training, and shuttle service logistics
Ensure animal wellness, safety, and record-keeping protocols
Communicate with clients in a timely and professional manner
Coordinate maintenance and facility upkeep
Collaborate with the owner, other administration staff, head trainer, and dog handlers
Provide excellent customer service to clients via phone calls and emails
Using intuitive online software "Gingr" to communicate dog behaviour and help manage reservations
Observing and recording dog behaviour
Ensuring that the day runs smoothly by maintaining consistent communication with fellow staff
Assuming a dog handler role when needed
Driving off property to pick up and drop off dogs
Social media experience is a plus
Qualifications
3+ years experience in operations or team management (animal care preferred)
Strong leadership and communication skills
Comfortable with dogs of all breeds and sizes
Tech-savvy and confident using scheduling software, email, and databases
Calm under pressure and quick to solve problems
Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed (our "peak season" when we are full, is when the kids are off from school)
Drivers license and solid experience driving in winter conditions

Shift time: 7:30am - 4:30pm
Covering or finding staff for "night let out" shifts if needed
In house training is provided
We're open 365 days a year, and holidays are our busiest times
Pay is competitive for industry standards based on previous job experience
Dog care experience IS required, but this includes previous or current dog ownership, unprofessional dog walking or dog sitting, or volunteer work. You will be trained in-house if you do not have any formal dog handling experience.
Customer service, HR management and administration experience is required
Small business experience is an asset
