An exciting opportunity exists in our Finance department within Corporate division located in Fort Saskatchewan for an Operations Accountant. The purpose of this position is to support the Fort Site fertilizer operations and Technologies business units through inventory accounting and the receivable cycle, as well as business support to management to aid in meeting financial targets and strategic objectives.Our standard work schedule includes a full-time on-site presence to foster collaboration and community. We offer adaptable flexibility to ensure that our team members can succeed while balancing personal commitments.In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Maintain accurate inventory records for both the Metals and Fertilizer product.
  • Liaise with our fertilizer sales agent (IRM) for fertilizer sales on sales contracts and credit approvals.
  • Manage, record, and reconcile cash receipts, fees, interest, and payments made for all IRM accounts.
  • Record invoices and track collection of Technologies sales and intercompany cost recoveries for Technologies.
  • Liaise with Technologies and Fort Site Fertilizer operations to assist in analysis of results and support improvement opportunities.
  • Complete the AR function for Sherritt Utilities including preparing invoices, collections and reporting.
  • Record, collect, reconcile and monitor all by product sales and utility sales/cost recovery.
  • Identify, and develop forward looking, value \xe2\x80\x93 support Manager, Accounting on various continuous improvement and growth initiatives over 1-3-month time span.
  • Represent Finance and provide support for Fort Site Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Protect the integrity and stability of the Joint Venture (\xe2\x80\x9cJV\xe2\x80\x9d) by ensuring the JV Agreements are adhered to and that monthly transfers for products and services between the JV and shareholders are consistent with the principles of the JV Agreements.
  • Support the enhancement and management of accounting systems and internal controls to ensure the fiscal integrity of the business while continually optimizing the Fort Site\xe2\x80\x99s control environment.
Skills and attributes for success:
  • College Diploma \xe2\x80\x93 business or accounting.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience (manufacturing industry is preferred).
  • Understanding of current accounting best practices and standards.
  • Ability to conceive and implement a 0-3 month business plan.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to adapt to new technologies and tools that create efficiency and accelerated change.

  • Communication, writing, and presentation skills.
