Position Overview



We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Operations Accountant to join our team at Inn from the Cold. The Operations Accountant plays a critical role in the financial health and transparency of the organization by supporting the Controller in managing all funder-related accounting and reporting activities. This role ensures the integrity of restricted and unrestricted funds, maintains compliance with funder requirements, and collaborates closely with program teams to support budgeting, monitoring, and internal and external reporting for funded programs.



The Operations Accountant acts as a key liaison between finance and program staff, supporting accounting needs related to their program areas. The Operations Accountant is also responsible for assisting with accounts payable coverage when needed.



What You'll Do




Manage accounting for all grants, contracts, and contributions from government, foundations, and corporate/private funders. Monitor funder agreements and ensure proper classification, recognition, and tracking of revenue and expenditures in accordance with donor restrictions and organizational policies. Prepare timely, accurate financial reports for funders in accordance with grant agreements and reporting schedules. Coordinate with fund development and program staff to track reporting deadlines and ensure timely submission of funder deliverables. Partner with program managers to develop and manage grant and program budgets. Provide regular financial performance updates and variance analysis to program staff, highlighting areas of concern or opportunity. Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal controls related to funder and program accounting. Recommend improvements to financial systems, reporting tools, and workflows for enhanced transparency and efficiency that fall within the assigned area. Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to grants and restricted funds. Maintain Deferred Revenue schedules and related support. Facilitate and/or participate in organizational activities including team meetings, town halls, and engagement initiatives.




This position description reflects the general duties of the role, but is not intended to include all duties that may be inherent in the position. The Operations Accountant may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.



What You Bring to our Mission




2-year degree or diploma in accounting. Minimum 3 - 5 years of accounting experience with experience in non-profit or fund accounting. Strong experience with funder financial reporting, grant compliance, and budget monitoring. Familiarity with government funding and funder-specific compliance requirements. Working knowledge of Financial Edge will be considered a strong asset. Excellent working knowledge of Excel. Effective communication skills with the ability to translate financial data for non-financial stakeholders. Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.
