The Learning Disabilities Association of York Simcoe (LDAYS) is committed to providing support to students with learning disabilities through tailored, curriculum-based tutoring programs. We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated tutors to join our team. Tutors will work with children aged 7-13 who are at least one year behind in literacy due to a diagnosed or suspected learning disability, using our
Jump Math
and
Reading Rocks
programs.
Position Overview:
As a tutor at LDAYS, you will be responsible for delivering individualized tutoring sessions in our Jump Math and Reading Rocks programs. Tutors will work online with students to provide support and enhance their skills in literacy and numeracy. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week, with availability for tutoring sessions twice a week. Tutors will report to the Educational Programs Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Conduct an initial session with students and parents to develop a personalized learning plan.
Lead online tutoring sessions that align with the Jump Math and Reading Rocks programs, focusing on building foundational numeracy and literacy skills.
Create a positive and supportive learning environment that engages students.
Maintain regular communication with the Educational Programs Coordinator and parents to monitor student progress.
Develop a thorough understanding of learning disabilities and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
Ensure all sessions are aligned with the Ontario curriculum and the goals of the tutoring programs.
Submit summary reports to the Program Coordinator every 4 weeks to track progress.
Mandatory Requirements:
Commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week for at least 9 months (September - June).
Attend any required training sessions.
Availability for tutoring sessions twice a week, with evenings and weekends as the preferred time slots.
Qualifications:
Education: Completed or currently enrolled in College/University.
Experience: Teaching or tutoring background is an asset. Previous experience with literacy and math tutoring, especially for children with learning disabilities, is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Volunteer vulnerable sector screening required.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to plan and organize tutoring sessions.
Fluent in English with excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum and understanding of learning disabilities.
