About the Role

TutorCraft is seeking an experienced tutor to help first-year engineering students succeed in GNG 1105 - Engineering Mechanics at the University of Ottawa. This is a remote position offering flexible hours to work around your schedule.

Course Overview

GNG 1105 is a foundational first-year engineering course covering:

- Statics: Forces on particles and rigid bodies, equilibrium conditions

- Free body diagrams and force analysis

- Structural analysis Trusses, frames, and machines

- Dynamics:Rectilinear and curvilinear motion, kinematics

- Force systems and couple moments

- Applications to real-world engineering problems

Responsibilities

- Conduct one-on-one or small group online tutoring sessions via video conferencing

- Help students understand fundamental concepts in statics and dynamics

- Assist with problem-solving techniques for homework assignments and practice problems

- Prepare students for midterms and final exams

- Explain complex engineering mechanics concepts clearly and patiently

- Review lecture material and textbook problems

- Provide study strategies and exam preparation tips

Qualifications

Required:

- Currently enrolled in or completed Engineering, Physics, or related program at a Canadian university

- Strong understanding of engineering mechanics (statics and dynamics)

- Successfully completed GNG 1105 or equivalent course with a grade of B+ or higher

- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly

- Reliable internet connection and comfortable with online teaching platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.)

Preferred:

- Completed GNG 1105 specifically at the University of Ottawa

- Previous tutoring or teaching experience

- Familiarity with common textbooks (e.g., Hibbeler's Engineering Mechanics)

- Upper-year engineering student or recent graduate

Requirements
