We are seeking a Oil Burner Mechanic to join our dynamic team.
MAINTENANCE OIL BURNER MECHANIC
PURPOSE
The Maintenance Oil Burner Mechanic services and repairs oil fired heating systems in all Housing Association buildings and works. The Maintenance Oil Burner Mechanic works within the maintenance management program and performs those tradesmen duties listed therein.
REPORTS TO
The Maintenance Oil Burner Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Manager or the Housing Manager
DUTIES
1. Maintain oil-burners in Housing Association buildings to ensure a safe and efficient operation by:
cleaning and overhauling all oil-burners and related equipment (fuel pumps, blowers, vents, duct work, etc.) on a regular basis.
testing all overhauled and re-built oil-burners to ensure units are safe and in good working order; and
installing new equipment when required.
2. Inspect all oil-fired and solid fuel heating systems in Housing Association buildings to ensure satisfactory operation by:
conducting regular checks of all oil burners.
conducting regular preventative maintenance inspections of all components.
diagnosing faults in oil burners and identifying repairs required to correct deficiencies.
completing inspection reports; and
identifying deficiencies in and repairs to chimneys and fireboxes.
3. Maintain domestic and industrial appliances by:
examining and testing appliances to identify deficiencies and determining repairs required.
repairing appliances and re-building components for re-use; and
testing repaired and re-built units to ensure they are in good working order.

4. Complete records for all maintenance and repairs by:
identifying supplies required and compiling material list.
completing work orders for all work assignments.
accounting for eight hours of work each day plus any overtime.
assisting in inventory and stock control; and
identifying inefficient systems and recommending replacement or upgrading.
5. Perform other duties, such as:
identifying unsafe and hazardous conditions.
responding to demand work at hours that may be irregular.
cleaning work/shop machinery, sharpening tools, and servicing as required.
assisting other tradesmen in emergency situations.
providing advice to other tradesmen as required.
supervising and training apprentices and casual staff.
ensuring new apprentices, casuals and students receive safety orientation; and
assisting district technical staff from time to time.
6. Participate in work on capital projects (Modernization & Improvement (M&I)
7. Help with organizing the inventory warehouse and preparing for year end inventory counts.
8. Other types of plumbing jobs that may be required and for which the employee is experienced.
9. This is the smallest community in Nunavut and as such an employee may be required to perform any other type of job for which the employee is experienced and is able to do as required and as time permits.
10. Employee will provide mentorship to Inuit and local employees as necessary.
Qualifications
Red Seal Certification
Proven experience as an Oil Burner Mechanic or in a similar role
Strong understanding of ductwork installation and maintenance
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing oil burner systems
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the industry
Relevant certifications in HVAC or oil burner technology preferred
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months
Pay: $45.65-$67.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 60 per week
