The goal of the Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program (ACARP) is to provide patient-centered, evidence-based and holistic care to our patients who are socially vulnerable and/or dealing with problematic substance use. By using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach, the team strives to support at risk patients who want to improve their social determinants of health and/or reduce their substance use. As part of this multi-disciplinary team, the nurse practitioner will work closely with other team members to complete initial patient assessments, perform preventative health exams, and do patient follow ups as required. The nurse practitioner will support both the In-patient clinical team as well as the Emergency Department ACARP team and will be responsible for evaluating patients in follow up through the NP-led ACARP transitional clinic. The nurse practitioner provides support, leadership and clinical nursing expertise to staff working within the Supervised Consumption Service. The nurse practitioner advocates for patients and supports the integration of harm reduction into acute care practices. The NP might be asked to help in University of Alberta hospital in the future as the program expands. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.
