Posting Title: Youth In-Residence (NexUp Initiative) Location: Vancouver, BC CA (Primary) Compensation Rate: Based on experience Job Type: 6 months - Part-time (10 hr per week), contract with the possibility of extension ABOUT US We are honoured to introduce a new role within DUDES Club Society (DCS) under NexUp - a youth-led initiative that brings people together to support the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness of boys, young men, two-spirit, queer, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming youth. NexUp leads the DCS Strategic Youth Response through collaborative community projects and activities which uphold, enhance, support and advance DCS\xe2\x80\x99s Mission and Vision. MISSION Facilitate a participant-led community for men\xe2\x80\x99s* wellness with activity-based clubs that prioritise supportive relationships, engagement in healthcare, and local Indigenous worldviews. JOB SUMMARY The Youth-In-Residence (YR) is a dynamic role that calls for an individual who will be responsible for supporting the DCS team in building stronger relationships with the youth and young adult demographic. The YR will further act as a partnership ambassador to further support each of our existing partners, including local community groups, local Nations, and Health Authorities (FNHA, PHSA, Northern Health). The YR will require a commitment to deepening their knowledge through learning opportunities and openly share their experiences in both 1:1 setting and collaboratively with the team. They will also work through strategic level planning to define, build, launch, and support all new and current initiatives under NexUp. The YR is responsible for communicating well and providing appropriate information so that the DCS communications team can properly share the good news. The YR along with the NexUp Team will be the primary point of contact between partnering organizations and the DCS Youth engagement initiative and is expected to maintain clear and good communication with partnering organizations, health directors, facilitators, and elders, among other key community leaders. Decision-making at DCS is done collaboratively, on a management level, and also on a community level, with local partner organizations, local facilitators/champions, and local elders. This position has been dedicated for 10 hours per week. Work hours could fluctuate upon discussion; depending on program travel and deadlines, with approximately one trip quarterly. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support youth and young adult men and masculine folks\xe2\x80\x99 wellness and community wellness
  • Support the development of relationships, connections and conversations with stakeholders and community relations. Supporting various areas of health and wellness:
1. Food 2. Health and Hygiene (health information; access to medication, personal hygiene and medical supplies) 3. Information and community navigation (e.g., providing information; navigating, community supports) 4. Mental health and wellness (e.g., peer support; crisis support) 5. Safety (e.g., information; access to violence and abuse support; violence and abuse prevention) 6. Social inclusion and learning (e.g., friendly conversation; social activities; learning activities)
  • Participate in Monthly facilitator calls, weekly team meetings, partner meetings as they arise, and support the coordination of NexUp gatherings in Vancouver or elsewhere whenever possible.
  • Support the creation of NexUp Knowledge Bundle as a foundation for expansion of the DUDES Club model for Youth Engagement.
  • Assist in development of NexUp including support improvement of the website, promotions and marketing materials and special events.
  • Maintain a clear line of communication with team members, ensuring that any issues are promptly raised and resolved
  • Interact with the media and other communications outlets as required
  • Perform other related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS Work location is quite flexible. The YR will be permitted to work from home/ library/ coffee shop/ DCS office, but will be expected to have a presence at:
  • \xe2\x80\xa2 Weekly NexUp team meetings
(Currently every Monday 10am-11am).
  • \xe2\x80\xa2 Monthly DCS Team meetings
The YR may also have Quarterly short-term (1-3 days) travel to communities as determined, to support DCS Youth Response Strategy and other initiatives which require partner relationship-building. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Cultural Knowledge, and ability to work cross-culturally
  • Life experience allowing candidate to relate to youth participants
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about LGBTQ2IA+ rights, identities and experiences
  • Experience working with boys, young men, two-spirit, queer, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming youth, or openness to working with the identified demographic.
  • Experience working in community with community members, towards community-set goals
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations and/or clients
  • Competencies: Communication, Systems Thinking, Relationship Building, Decision Making, plus competencies consistent with DCS Standards of Practice
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C or an interest in acquiring are an asset
