Your Position & How You Will Contribute Based in Newmarket in an on-site working environment \xe2\x80\x93 Reporting to the Manager of Network Engineering, the Network Engineer will have both hands-on and strategic responsibilities, building out our points-of-presence while innovating around what we have already built to meet customer needs and maximize opportunities while minimizing risk. We understand that our business thrives when our network is highly reliable and that starts by hiring the right network professionals. You will be supporting maintenance, optimization and network build projects as we expand our footprint. Responsibilities & Key Duties Fiber Quality Control & On-Going Capacity Management of Outside/Inside Plant:
  • Assess and improve fiber quality and accounting with a rapidly growing footprint
  • Qualify dark and CWDM/DWDM fiber paths to ensure high availability of backhaul and access infrastructure
  • Use OTDR & OSA to diagnose and benchmark our infrastructure towards the goal of reduced MTTR
  • Audit, clean and occasionally repair outside plant elements in coordination with Field Ops
Access & Aggregation Regional Presence:
  • Deploy and Troubleshoot within an XGS-PON infrastructure including OLT capacity & quality management, configuration and root cause analysis of issues
  • Tier 3 Support for issues affecting the Customer Experience including Residential Gateway, TV and Phone services
  • Monitor, improve and deploy power systems to ensure high availability
Back Office Systems & Datacenters:
  • Maintain High Availability of servers and the services that run on them in a virtual environment, including DHCP, DNS, VPN, Databases and
  • Work with Linux-based operating systems, SQL and No-SQL databases, Web APIs and Netconf-based configuration
  • Monitor and Measure network infrastructure using existing and new tools
  • Respond as a group with key subject matter expertise to internal and external tickets
  • Programming to support, audit and improve the provisioning systems for new customer activations, both residential and business
Core Network & Colocations:
  • Configure, optimize, test and question all elements of our routing infrastructure
  • Contribute to implementation of new technologies or topologies
  • Work with 3rd parties to turn-up circuits and build relationships
  • Plan for capacity and resiliency to match our growing demands
Network Solutions:
  • Leverage existing infrastructure to meet the needs of our customers, primarily businesses who have varied needs
  • Collaborate with the Design and Construction departments to develop effective strategies around serviceable units and requirements for serviceability
  • Manage various portals and views to ensure accurate adjustments to the fiber tracking as needed
  • Prepare scope-of-work and align sub-contractors on a per-project basis

  • Ability to work as part of a rotating on-call team and respond to incidents at odd hours
  • Create accurate as-builts and method-of-procedures, and contribute to the accuracy and thoroughness of others
  • Identify workplace hazards and assist with the implementation of safety measures

  • Juniper, FOA, RedHat certifications
  • Service Provider or NOC experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the telecommunications industry
  • Comfort in a terminal environment, especially *nix
  • Experience splicing fiber, working with Muxes
  • Experience with ultra-high availability communications systems
  • Experience with REST-JSON/SOAP-XML APIs
  • Experience with SQL/No-SQL databases
  • Go programming language
