The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Architect in our Calgary office reporting to the Manager, Video Services. The successful candidate will be accountable for the architecture, deployment and support of scalable network and technology solutions for Shaw's video network including IPTV, cable, satellite and business solutions.

A typical day

• Lead diverse, complex projects and drive to completion
• Prioritize high workloads according to business priority and severity
• Design, test and implement solutions and modifications to provide high availability of the video network.
• Design, implement and support of video solutions for multi-dwelling units.
• New technology evaluations to enhance the Shaw's commitment to service quality and reliability.
• Ensure consistency of standards and testing methodologies.
• Vendor product evaluation and verification.
• Training and knowledge sharing with other Technology and Operational groups to ensure high levels of competency and understanding.
• Technical support to Shaw's operations groups during both regular office hours and 24/7 on-call (candidate will be required to be on call following a successful probation period).
• Available for occasional overnight work.
• Available for occasional travel within North America.

Your skills/experience

• 5+ years in a technical role relating to network topology, design and implementation.
• An Engineering or Technology Degree from an accredited school is preferred.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of Cisco IOS/switches/routers.
• Basic to intermediate experience working with Linux (SUSE, RedHat).
• Experience with scripting languages (Shell, Perl, SQL).
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, IP Multicast/Anycast/Unicast).
• Proven experience in developing and executing plans, meeting deadlines and operating under tight time constraints.
• Able to learn new technologies quickly.
• Intermediate level diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong understanding of MPEG-2, H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC), HEVC, ABR compression technologies.
• Strong understanding of IP, HD/SD-SDI and ASI video and digital video transport systems.
• Understanding of satellite transport systems and encryption systems.
• Strong understanding of SMPTE, ATSC, ITU and ISO standards relating to video.
• Team player with strong organizational, interpersonal, written & oral communication skills are required.
• Must be able to create professional level documentation and drawings.
• Experience in a customer facing environment where the customer experience is paramount.
