About the Role
At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we\xe2\x80\x99ve been helping people in crisis since 1928. As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. Family Services of Greater Vancouver is recruiting committee members to help support grassroots, community-building projects through the New Westminster Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program.

Term : NGC members serve for a two-year term, which may be renewed once for a total of four years.

Location: New Westminster

What you bring:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Promotion: Promote the NSG program through word of mouth, e-mail, social media, posters, and other means.
  • Grant reviewing: Review project proposals and make recommendations for funding in line with NSG goals, objectives, and program guidelines.
  • Assisting community gatherings: Assist in planning and conducting an orientation/cheque presentation session for NSG project leaders (usually held in the spring) and a program celebration and/or wrap-up session (usually held in the fall).
  • Support and mentorship: Support NSG project leaders by answering questions, attending their events, and providing mentorship as needed.
  • Storytelling: Share stories about noteworthy projects with other Advisory Committee members, the Program Coordinator, and Vancouver Foundation.
  • Feedback: Provide feedback and reflection on the NSG Program to the Program Coordinator and Vancouver Foundation to improve the grant-making process and the overall program.
  • Recruitment: Identify individuals from within the community as potential committee members and make recommendations for recruitment to the Program Coordinator.

Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Volunteers must be at least 14 years old
  • Volunteers must live in New Westminster
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required
