The opportunity:



The University of Manitoba is looking for an NCTR Access & Privacy Coordinator. This is a full-time position reporting to the Access and Privacy Officer. The primary purpose of this role is to facilitate access to residential school records held by the Centre. This includes responding to requests from Residential School Survivors, their family members, and the public. The position also manages the release of records requested through the proactive disclosure process, which can be released to Indigenous communities, researchers, the media, organizations and other requesters.

In addition, this role supports all archival and research functions within the NCTR. Because the position involves handling sensitive personal and health information, a high level of confidentiality and discretion is essential.

The qualifications and experience we're looking for:



Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates. Applicants must self-declare on their cover letter or resume as Indigenous (First nations, Metis, and/or Inuit).

Bachelor's degree or College diploma or comparable equivalent combination of education and experience required. Additional education in a related field, including Indigenous studies, Indigenous governance, office administration, law, access and privacy, government or policy analysis, or information management preferred. A minimum of five years' experience working within an office environment required. Experience in dealing effectively and diplomatically with varying levels of staff within the organization and the public, and ability to foster harmonious working relationships with other staff, both academic and support, is required. Experience in dealing respectfully and in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner with Indigenous Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors. Previous experience with access to information and protection of privacy legislation including The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Act preferred. Experience with the review and redaction of documents an asset. Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, and groups is an asset. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills required. Excellent research skills required. Excellent writing skills required. Excellent organizational skills required. Excellent time-management skills required. Excellent management skills required. Extensive computer experience on a variety of operating systems and software, including Windows, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access) and Adobe Acrobat Pro required. Strong problem solving skills required. Demonstrated ability to work independently and accurately under pressure required. Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
