The NNADAP Representative will lead and support community efforts to reduce alcohol and drug use by promoting healthier lifestyle choices and providing support throughout the recovery process
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support and counseling to people dealing with substance use
Share information and tools to help the community understand addiction and how to reduce harm
Organize and run regular AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings
Support clients throughout treatment and recovery with a comprehensive relapse prevention plan
Keep client files organized and offer support in person or online
Visit the TFN youth center weekly to run fun and educational activities
Visit schools to educate about addiction and provide support when needed
Plan and lead workshops for the community, both in person and online
Work closely with treatment centers to support clients
Support clients and their families after treatment
Be active in the community--attend events and visit schools
Work with the Drug Strategies Coordinator on safe space activities
Manage the program's budget
Partner with other services and organizations
Take clients to Methadone clinic and treatment centres when needed
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
Regularly check in with the community to understand their needs
Plan and organize fun and interactive workshops about addiction and mental health
Raise awareness about substance use and promote healthy living
Organize events like Overdose Awareness Day, Addiction Week, and healing activities
Strengthen connections with treatment centers to make services more accessible
Attend regional meetings to stay updated on trends and best practices
Plan and organize outreach activities and attend Safe Place
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
A post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling with emphasis/specialization in Addictions
2+ years of work experience in Mental Health and Addictions
Must pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
A valid Class 5 Quebec driver's license or equivalent
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Understand Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ways of working respectfully within them
Understand the impact of trauma, including intergenerational trauma, on First Nations people
Have knowledge of traditional healing practices and a whole-person approach to health
Understand health laws, treatment methods, and basic medical terms
Be comfortable working in different environments and with people from various backgrounds
Know how different treatment centers work and what they specialize in
Be able to use computers and common programs like Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Communicate clearly in both speaking and writing
Stay organized, manage your time well, and handle multiple tasks
Plan and manage projects and write reports when needed
Work well with others and independently
Represent TFN in a professional and respectful way, keeping information private
French or Algonquin language is considered an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working 35 hours a week, which include weekend and evening hours
In and out of office work to include counselling and community outreach services
Overtime may be required

Pay: $23.00-$35.00 per hour
