Position Summary
We are hiring for
two new Harm Reduction Outreach Workers
to join our team. Under the supervision of the Thunder Bay Director, the Harm Reduction Outreach Worker will provide harm reduction services and programming to support marginalized Indigenous youth. They will deliver overdose prevention education, distribute supplies, make referrals, maintain records, and build community partnerships while ensuring confidentiality and adhering to organizational policies. These roles require expertise in harm reduction, a commitment to cultural integrity, and a focus on empowering at-risk youth.
Key Responsibilities
Provide harm reduction outreach services in the community.
Outreach work in encampments throughout the city to distribute drug testing kits and naloxone.
Provide overdose prevention education and support to youth at various locations.
Distribute safer drug use and safer sex supplies.
Provide naloxone training and distribute naloxone kits.
Occasionally run kit-making groups.
Provide harm reduction programming to youth and encourage their involvement in ENAGB's programming.
Use knowledge of drug use, harm reduction, and overdose prevention to design and deliver educational workshops.
Develop partnerships within the community to address the needs of vulnerable Indigenous youth.
Provide distribution and collection services for harm reduction equipment.
Make referrals to services such as withdrawal management, residential treatment, and counseling.
Build working relationships with organizations such as the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program, Building Healthy Communities, and Community Health Representatives in Thunder Bay.
Maintain the database and submit timely reports and track harm reduction supplies distributed.
Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
Adhere to ENAGB Youth Program policies and procedures.
Ensure a team approach in all tasks.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or a combination of work experience of at least 2-3 years in related fields.
Experience working with marginalized communities such as homeless or under-housed individuals, street-involved youth, psychiatric consumer/survivors, sex trade workers, and drug users
Ability to be open, non-judgemental and willing to learn
Must have extensive knowledge of the Indigenous community (Inuit, Metis or First Nation).
Fluent in an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous cultures is an asset.
Adequate energy and ability to meet the physical, and mental demands of the job.
A valid Standard First Aid and CPR.
Valid Driver's license is a mandatory requirement.
A positive, fun-loving attitude.
The ability to work as a team and be self-motivated.
Cleared Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) is mandatory.
