Job Purpose:

National Director Partnerships and Governmental Affairs

As the National Director Partnerships and Governmental Affairs, you will lead an external team responsible for gaining public and private payor reimbursement for GSK Medicines and Vaccines across the Canadian provinces and territories. You will represent GSK and collaborate with key external life sciences and government stakeholders to build trustworthy relations, win-win projects and partnerships to positively impact the health of Canadians while enabling GSK to deliver on its business objectives.

Details (Your Responsibilities):

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of a yearly innovative and differentiated payor and stakeholdersaEUR(TM) strategic engagement plans along with strategic account management plans for key customers and payors in order support the successful execution of GSK market access and policy strategies across our portfolio of medicines and vaccines, accelerate patients access to GSK medicines and vaccines and position GSK as a preferred partner for health system solutions.
  • Coaching of a team of senior Partnership and External Affairs manager(s) and Private Payor team thorough development and execution of customer plans.
  • Proactive payor insights gathering and communication to the Market Access and other relevant teams to support the development of innovative MA and commercial strategies.
  • Strong collaboration across the Canadian Government Affairs and Market Access (GAMA) division and a key member of the GAMA leadership team.
  • Strong collaboration and issue management with cross functional teams including communication, commercial teams, medical, regulatory, finance and others.
  • Engage with provincial politicians and their political staff (in government and in the opposition at all levels: federal, provincial, and municipal), deputy ministers, key decision makers and other stakeholders of the healthcare ecosystem in general to successfully implement GSK strategies while continuously seeking innovative partnership opportunities.
  • Identify public and private payor priorities and areas of interest that aligns well with GSK business priorities to develop or co create win-win solutions, projects, or partnerships that differentiate GSK.
  • Lead your team to help shape public policies and lead development of GSK positions in the context of consultations to address or mitigate risks for GSK, and to enable a positive ecosystem for rapid adoption of pharmaceutical innovations and create opportunities that position the organization successfully.
  • Advice the GSK Canada leadership team and other associates on how to best navigate through government systems, with a particular focus on Health, Economic Development, Innovation and Finance Departments and how to best influence positively and interact with politicians, political staff, decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Help foster GSKaEUR(TM)s culture of ambition for patients, accountability for impact and doing the right this by leading within GAMA and across the organization to support the business strategies and employee engagement.
Why you?

Basic Qualifications:
  • BacheloraEUR(TM)s (preferably Masters) degree with a specialization in Health / Health Management / Policy/ Business Management / Sales / Marketing / Management / Sales / Marketing / another relevant field
  • 5-10 years of government experience &/or
  • 5-10 years in Market access/HTA and Government Relations in the pharmaceutical industry (or in other industries, as applicable) in an association or as a consultant
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, the healthcare ecosystem, policy shaping and the political and governmental environment in general.
  • Established life sciences sector, political and payor network across Canada.
  • Minimum of 3+ yearsaEUR(TM) experience leading teams in a competitive environment with demonstrated strong track record of leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interactions with high-profile stakeholders in a matrix environment
  • Strong strategic account management and negotiations skills
  • Strong communication and influencing skills to ensure an objective representation of ideas and opinions and the ability to adjust based on audience (Sr. Leaders, employees etc.)
  • Highly motived self-starter and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective Change Management skills
  • Demonstrated experience driving innovation/system change to solve healthcare/Market Access problems
  • Ability to interact effectively across the organization at all levels in a matrix environment
  • Ability to work in an agile manner, inspiring and driving broader teams to understand and adapt similar approach
  • Demonstrated fearless collaboration across functions and "swim lanesaEUR
Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Minimum of 10+ Pharmaceutical experience
  • Experience working across multiple divisions (Commercial, Medical, GAMA)
  • Good understanding of HTA/Payor frameworks
  • Strong understanding of Canadian HC system and life sciences ecosystem - established stakeholders network nationally or in the provinces.
  • Strategic account management / Negotiation skills
