Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications, the Director, Digital & Content Strategy will be responsible for leading a multifaceted team charged with the development and execution of sophisticated digital communications products and tactics, and high-quality member-facing content, to advance FCM\xe2\x80\x99s advocacy agenda. This role is situated within the Communications team of the Policy and Public Affairs (PPA) division, which is responsible for the advocacy strategies and priority-setting that drive important outcomes for FCM\xe2\x80\x99s membership. As a senior member within this team, the Director of Digital and Content will play an important role in refining FCM\xe2\x80\x99s public narrative across multiple communications channels and implementing the tactics to bring that story to life. The incumbent as a respected people leader fosters a healthy and collaborative team culture; leveraging team engagement, coaching, clear communication, and priority setting to achieve team results. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of FCM\xe2\x80\x99s communication strategies and refine FCM\xe2\x80\x99s public message based on the priority setting of the Senior Director, Communications and in collaboration with other PPA Directors.
  • Provide day-to-day management of a team of communications professionals dedicated to producing top-notch digital communications (including the use of our growing social media channels) and content production (including speeches, key messaging, reports, email marketing and more).
  • In partnership with the Managers of Digital Communications and Content, manage external consultants or vendors in the production of key collateral.
  • Identify and assign short- and medium-term communications campaigns based on FCM\xe2\x80\x99s advocacy goals.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Communications and the Director of Events & Partnerships to develop the content designed to support FCM\xe2\x80\x99s sector-leading Events and Partnerships\xe2\x80\x99 needs.
  • Develop strategies that ensure that FCM\xe2\x80\x99s Executive leadership (including CEO and Table Officers) are an integral part of FCM\xe2\x80\x99s public voice as effective and dynamic spokespeople.
  • Effectively manage the team, coach when needed, build/maintain a healthy, collaborative and productive team culture and lead the team towards continuous success
  • Lead the team towards achieving goals and track critical progress as defined against agreed-upon goals.
  • Consult and collaborate with colleagues across PPA \xe2\x80\x93 including Government Relations, Policy, and Outreach & Engagement \xe2\x80\x93 on the Communications tactics that best meet the needs of our membership and help advance our advocacy goals.
  • Oversee the continuous review of all procedures, practices, standards and approaches as required
  • Support the Senior Director in the development and management of the departmental budget

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • University degree or equivalent work experience in Communications, Digital Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressive digital communications, content production and editorial management experience with at least five (5) years direct team/people management (coaching, capacity building, workload management etc.) experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of content creation in support of designing digital experiences, crafting the right tone, voice and message for customers\xe2\x80\x99 goals and audiences, across their various touch points
  • Exemplary abilities and the political acuity to build and manage various relationships in a matrix-styled organization, in a culturally diverse environment and with a variety of government, institutional and private stakeholders in order to advance the goals of the organization.
  • Demonstrable political acumen at the federal and municipal level will be considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development of Strategic Messaging
  • Self-motivated with a strong capacity for self-directed and independent work combined with an ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from different cultural/diverse backgrounds and proven commitment to anti-racism, equity and inclusion
  • Excellent relationship building skills with demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining strong and collegial working relationships with internal and external stakeholders required
  • Excellent organization, conceptual, problem solving, communication and leadership skills and an ability to respond to shifting priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, healthy and positive team culture in addition to experience in team capacity building is essential.
  • Possession of a high degree of professionalism, initiative, judgment, integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and tact when dealing with sensitive and/or complex issues and information
  • Experience with contract and vendor management desired
  • Fluency in English is required, and fluency in French is a strong asset.
