META is seeking a Nano-imprint Lithography Specialist for our manufacturing and scale-up facility in Thurso, Quebec. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Process Development, The Nano-Imprinting Specialist will be responsible for development of nano-replication techniques, along with material selection and characterization for the development of nano-optical and metamaterial devices.
What You’ll Do: The position is heavily hands-on, and the candidate should have several years of experience in developing nano-imprinting techniques, ideally with experience at both laboratory and industrial scales. The Nano-Imprinting Specialist will have the opportunity to contribute to the team’s research by working with our scientists and process specialists in developing new nano-imprinting processes and improving existing ones. Your role will include sourcing and development of UV curable polymer formulations, promoting chemical, mechanical, and optical stability with a focus on durability and chemical resistance. Meta Materials will depend on your work to ensure a consistent level of fidelity in nano-structure replication across lab and device production steps, including roll-to-roll volume production. The position involves detailed execution of nano-replication processes in and outside of the cleanroom, including UV-NIL, step and repeat NIL, and various nano-characterization techniques.
Some of the typical responsibilities will include:

• Work with other NIL specialists to develop step and repeat NIL process development using advanced techniques including plate-to-plate, roll-to-plate and automated step and repeat machinery.
• Explore, experiment, and establish novel polymer imprinting processes to reduce defects and optimize the replication throughput at nanoscale.

• Facilitate failure mode analysis and implement corrective actions to expedite the scale-up phase of product development.
• Employ nanoimprinting know-how to improve device performance during prototyping and manufacturing steps.
• Guide quality control protocols for UV casting, spray-coating and electroforming materials, and techniques.

Minimum qualifications:

• M.Sc. or equivalent in physics, chemistry, electrical or materials engineering.

• 5+ years of experience in nanoimprint lithography using UV curable resins or thermoplastics.
• Hands-on experience with micro- and nano-replication using plate-to-plate, roll-to-plate, or roll-to-roll nanoimprinting lithography techniques with ultraviolet or thermal polymer resin on flexible substrates.
• Demonstrated skill with UV-NIL of micro- and/or nanostructures, together with adhesion and release properties at both lab and pilot scales.
• Familiar with rapid prototyping and product development in fast-paced industry environment.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with metrology techniques and interpretation for the development of nanoscale metamaterials (AFM, SEM, Profilometry, EDX)
• Background in liquid rheology and surface chemistry.
