Established in 1789, the University of King's College is Canada's oldest chartered university and is associated with Dalhousie University. The University of King's College is looking for a Music Program Administrator to support the Director of Music in sustaining a rich tradition of choral singing on campus. This tradition includes several choirs: the King's Chapel Choir, the King's Chorus, the Compline Choir and the Sunday Morning Choir. The Music Program Administrator has overall responsibility for the administration of primarily the King's Chapel Choir and the King's Chorus. The King's Chapel Choir is an auditioned chamber choir that sings weekly services in the King's Chapel, and at least one concert per term. The King's Chorus is a choral society made up of students, Faculty and Staff, alumni, and community members of King's and Dalhousie. The Chorus performs one concert at the end of each academic term.

The Music Program Administrator reports to the Director of Music and will also work closely with the Chaplain and the Chapel Administrator. The University of King's College Remote Work and Flex Hours Policy will apply. Some duties may be carried out remotely, but an in-person presence will be required weekly -- particularly during the main university year from September to April.

This is a part-time permanent position (FTE: 50%). The successful candidate will be compensated for 17.5 hours per week. In discussion with the Director of Music, they will have the ability to adjust the number of weekly hours to accommodate choir schedules and deadlines: In busier weeks during the Christmas and Easter seasons it may be necessary to work up to 20 hours, including some evenings and weekends. To balance, there will be weeks during which the time commitment is less than 17.5 hours.

Specific Duties/Accountabilities:

Finance:

bookkeeping and invoice payment.

Library:

sourcing, sorting, distributing, collecting, copying, and filing of all choral scores.

Advertising and Promotion (Recruitment, Concert, and General):

website updates, poster creation and printing, social media, poster distribution, specialist journal advertisements and editorial space, and other communication routes as appropriate.

Concert Administration:

venue booking, contracting, insurance certificates, ticket sales, front of house management on concert days; SOCAN/Entandem reporting, HST submission, and other concert-specific matters that arise.

Reception:

day-to-day correspondence including email, telephone, and postal mail.

Tours and Outreach:

research and booking of transportation, insurance, accommodation, and meal arrangements, and other related matters, which may include driving rented passenger vehicles.

Document Preparation:

music term cards; concert programmes; workshop handouts; and, other materials, as required.

Database:

creating and maintaining a list of recruitment contacts, choir alumni, music donors, and volunteers willing to assist with the delivery of our events.

Chapel Choir Robes:

allocating Chapel Choir robes of appropriate size to each member and monitoring their condition; arranging for repairs or replacements, as necessary.

Singing/Playing/Conducting:

If the successful candidate is a musician (preferrable), singing with or accompanying (organ or piano) one or more of the choirs may be incorporated into the job description.

General:

other matters relating to the King's Chapel Music activities as they arise.

Skills and Experience (Required):

Minimum two years of music-related administrative experience, working in higher education and/or music industry.

Prior success in event hosting, including registration and ticket sales.

Evidence of creating music-related social media campaigns.

Knowledge of print copyright, and performance licensing, specifically as it relates to music, including live performance in concert, worship service, recording, and streaming.

Demonstrated competence with browser-based web site content management interfaces such as Squarespace and/or Wordpress.

Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time within a flexible work schedule.

Comfort and fluency with standard office software for document production, finance and record keeping, and correspondence including email lists (e.g. Mailchimp).

Skills and Experience (Desirable):

Experience as a church musician (choral singing, organ/piano, and/or conducting).

Familiarity with Anglican worship and liturgy (or those traditions with a close affinity, including Roman Catholic and Lutheran).

A full valid Canadian driver's license.

The salary for this position is calculated at $21 per hour at half-time (FTE: 50%). A comprehensive group benefits package is offered including membership in the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).
