HORIZON SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Vancouver BC
About Horizon
Horizon School of Music is a thriving community of musicians, educators, and lifelong learners. Our team has supported thousands of students and families across Vancouver through private lessons, group programs, live performance opportunities, and our partnership with Empower Through Music Society, which provides cost free music education to those who need it most. We believe music changes lives, and we are proud of the joyful and welcoming culture our teachers help create every day.
Our Teaching Values
Ears Before Eyes
We teach through listening, feeling, and musical connection before visual instruction.
Client Led Curriculum
We meet each student where they are and tailor lessons to their goals, energy, and musical taste.
Play First, Understand Later
Students make real music from day one. Joy and momentum drive progress.
Human First Teaching
Empathy, patience, and care guide every session.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking guitar, piano, and vocal instructors who bring warmth, professionalism, and artistry to their teaching. Multi instrumentalists who can teach two or three of these instruments will move to the front of the line.
Non negotiable qualities
A joyful disposition that makes students feel safe and inspired
A team player mindset
Kind and patient communication
A low drama attitude
A desire to support the school as a whole rather than working in a silo
Reliable, punctual, and fully prepared for every session
Able to follow our teaching values and culture
Located in Vancouver or reasonably close proximity to our school.
Experience Requirements
At least one year of private teaching experience is preferred. Exceptionally strong younger teachers who feel aligned with our culture will be considered.
Musical Expectations
Strong practical musicianship
Ability to break down songs and techniques clearly
Ability to help students compose and improvise while also learning their bucket list deep cuts
Comfort teaching modern styles, creative work, improvisation, and student led material
We are not seeking exam focused classical instruction. Traditional program based teaching does not fit our method.
Who Our Students Are
About 60 percent of our students are young adults and adults. We also support a thriving community of youth learners. You must be comfortable engaging with students of varied ages and backgrounds.
Scheduling
Teachers must be willing to accept the shifts that are available when joining our team. One to two teaching days are available at the start, approximately 5 to 15 hours of weekly teaching, with space to grow and build a steady student roster.
Application Notes
We receive a very large number of applications. We appreciate your time and interest, but we will only respond to candidates who clearly match our criteria. If you do not receive a response within one week, it means we are not moving forward at this time.
