Are you an Early Childhood Music instructor with certification in ECM methodology? We would love to welcome you to our team to serve our young students at the Conservatory's Downtown Victoria and Langford campuses, as well as outreach at daycares and community centres. We are seeking instructors certified in Kodaly, Orff, and/or other recognized Early Childhood Music Education methodologies. As a member of the Conservatory's faculty and reporting to the Dean and working with our Early Childhood Music and In-School Coordinator, the successful applicant will be an integral part of the growth and success of our growing ECM program. All faculty are independently contracted as service providers and paid hourly according to established fee grid. The Conservatory's ECM program is in high demand and offers trained ECM instructors the opportunity to build out their practice at the Conservatory as desired while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.



Duties


Prior experience teaching young children and working with children with parents present. Certification in Kodaly, Orff Schulwerk, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and/or other recognized Early Childhood Music methodology. Post-secondary education in music. The ability to play and improvised on two instruments. Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate, work with, and maintain relationships with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Personal commitment to practicing high standards of professional conduct and ethics. Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer. Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a 'Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.



Key Responsibilities


The successful Early Childhood Music teaching candidate will provide group-based music instruction to students (birth to 5 years of age) and families. Knowledge of intervention strategies for children and youth, use of superior improvisational skills and creativity, as well as more structured model sessions. Focus on learning outcomes and lesson planning for progressive music learning. Candidates should be experienced in working with young children and have basic skills on keyboard, guitar, or other chordal accompanying instruments. The ECM instructor will be teaching at the Victoria Conservatory downtown campus, Langford campus, and in the community at daycare and community centres. Interaction and communication with participants, parents, caregivers, and staff is clear and effective. Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and to work independently is complemented with a strong work ethic built on enthusiasm, positive energy, mutual respect, sensibility, sense of responsibility, and driven by a passion for the field of early childhood music education.



Qualifications and Requirements


A minimum of a recognized bachelor's degree in music. Certification in Certification in Kodaly, Orff Schulwerk, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and/or other recognized Early Childhood Music methodology. Experience focused primarily on children and youth, including strategic interventions for participants with ADHD. Extensive musicianship and improvisation skills. Musical aptitude includes familiarity with age-appropriate music repertoire, lesson planning, and learning outcomes.



Other Requirements


* The successful candidate must provide their own transportation to and from both campuses, downtown Victoria and Westhills in Langford and to outreach locations such as daycare and community centres.
