Primary Accountabilities
The Museum Promotions Assistant will support the museum's Marketing and Events Officer in coordinating and promoting a wide variety of projects from fall 2022 to spring 2023, including community outreach activities, museum public programs, and website and social media research and development. In furthering the museum's equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, the assistant's role will help build museum relationships with various communities, and expand our audiences with diverse maritime events. The special exhibit, Ta'n me'j Tel-keknuo'ltiek (Da'n mej Del-geg-new-ol-tee-egg): How Unique We Still Are, Evergreen Festival (winter), March Break (spring), and holiday and cultural-themed program support will be involved.
Work may include evenings, weekends and holidays. This part-time opportunity will be up to 20 hours a week.
Main Areas of work: Museum Galleries and outdoor spaces, museum offices.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution, having preferably completed at least two years of study. Students enrolled in business, marketing, public relations, tourism or history and arts related fields would be preferable. Good communication and organizational skills are required. Computer proficiency with common software and web search is required. Interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment, from staff and public visitors to community partners, are valuable assets.
The candidate should demonstrate how they can solve problems creatively, apply research techniques, use work time effectively, and take initiative on special projects. Work or volunteer experience in developing social media campaigns (FaceBook, Instagram, and Twitter) and producing digital material using video, photography and graphic design are beneficial.
