About the Yale Historic Site



Located in BC's iconic Fraser Canyon, the Yale Historic Site is a place where Canadian history comes alive. Operated by Forager Foundation, the site preserves and interprets Yale's pivotal role during the Fraser River Gold Rush. Visitors can explore the Creighton House Museum, the Ward House, the historic St. John the Divine Church, and the On Lee Property while enjoying a variety of cultural programs and interactive tours. Surrounded by the natural beauty of mountains and the Fraser River, the site offers a unique blend of history and nature.



Forager Foundation seeks a Museum Manager to oversee the daily operations, programming, and visitor experience of this provincial heritage site. The ideal candidate will be passionate about history and cultural heritage, skilled in team leadership, and experienced in managing museum programs, collections, and community engagement. The Museum Manager will ensure the site operates to professional standards while fostering respectful collaboration with Nlaka'pamux First Nations and other community partners.

Key Responsibilities



Site Management & Operations

Oversee all daily operations of the Yale Historic Site, including admissions, visitor services, facilities maintenance, and retail. Supervise, train, and support seasonal and volunteer staff. Assist the Accountant in managing budgets and tracking expenditures. Ensure compliance with safety, accessibility, and preservation standards in support of the curator.
Exhibitions & Collections

On-site set up of exhibitions, interpretive panels, and special projects. Support collections documentation, preventive conservation, artifact loans, and emergency plans.
Public Programming & Education

Coordinate school trips and private tours, community events, and cultural demonstrations.
Community & Partner Relations

Foster and maintain strong relationships with Nlaka'pamux First Nations (Lytton, Yale, and Spuzzum), local organizations, and tourism partners. Support consultation and collaboration on exhibits and programming that reflect Indigenous perspectives. Represent the Yale Historic Site at local and regional heritage and tourism meetings, when possible.
Administration & Marketing

Prepare reports, grant applications, and promotional materials in collaboration with the curator. Contribute to strategic planning, visitor research, and marketing initiatives to grow attendance and engagement. Work with the Marketer and Designer to coordinate social media, newsletters, and outreach communications.

35 hours per week.

Job Type:

Full-time, Hybrid.

Location:

On-site with flexibility for remote in the off-season

Schedule:

Wednesday to Sunday (Season) / Monday to Friday (Off-Season). 9 am - 5 pm PST.

Accommodation Option:

Housing can be provided on-site, if needed. This can be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications



Eligible applicants must:

Post-secondary degree in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Indigenous Studies, Cultural Resource Management, or a related field. Minimum three years of museum or heritage site management experience, preferably with staff supervision and budget oversight. Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail and timelines. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, including experience working collaboratively with Indigenous communities. Familiarity with BC heritage standards, museum ethics, and cultural protocol. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, basic graphic or web tools, and social media platforms. Valid driver's license and ability to work weekends or holidays during the operating season.
