Fort Dauphin Museum is seeking a dynamic and experienced Museum Manager/Curator to lead the management, preservation, and interpretation of our cultural and historical collections. As the bridge between our artifacts and our community, you will be responsible for creating compelling exhibitions that educate and engage a diverse community with compelling narratives. This role requires expertise, a creative vision, strong research skills, and a passion for cultural stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Curate and develop exhibitions, from initial concept to final installation, in alignment with the museum's mission.
Manage and care for the museum's collections, overseeing documentation, cataloging, and conservation efforts.
Conduct research to authenticate objects and develop interpretive content for exhibitions and educational programs.
Collaborate with community groups educators, and historians to plan and promote exhibitions and public programs.
Assist with the acquisition and deaccessioning of collection items, following ethical and legal standards.
Contribute to grant writing and fundraising initiatives to support curatorial projects.
Qualifications and Skills
Strong research and interpretive abilities.
An understanding of museum practices and cultural history.
Excellent proficiency with collections management software (e.g., PastPerfect, EMu).
Experience curating exhibitions and managing artifacts.
Ability to engage diverse audiences through storytelling and education.
Strong leadership, financial, organizational and communication skills.
Detail-oriented and preservation-focused approach.
Education and Experience Requirements
The position requires post-secondary education and/or extensive experience in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, or related field.
A minimum of 3-5 years of directly related experience in the operation of a not-for profit organization is desirable.
Proven success in engaging audiences through exhibits or programs.
Flexible schedule will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
