The Opportunity:

Engineering Services is looking for one (1) permanent full-time Municipal Engineering Technologist. Reporting to the Team Leader of Engineering Services, this position will provide technical review of statutory plans and supporting engineering studies, as well as development applications and supporting technical information, including support of long-range infrastructure planning and growth-related capital projects.

Primary accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaise with external and internal stakeholders
  • Review Community Area Structure Plans and Neighbourhood Structure Plans, including supporting technical studies and third-party reviews of technical studies
  • Support the department in developing infrastructure master plans such as the City\'s Utility Master Plan and Transportation Master Plan
  • Review Development Permit applications for compliance with engineering standards and specifications
  • Review subdivision submittals for compliance with engineering standards and specifications
  • Review utility line assignment applications for compliance with engineering standards and specifications
  • Support in the development and delivery of the department\'s capital projects, as required
  • Represent Engineering Services in external and internal meetings, as required
You Bring:
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation and a current member in good standing with ASET
  • A Degree in Civil Engineering with designation as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) and a member in good standing with APEGA is a definite asset
  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience related to municipal works, including transportation, water/wastewater and/or stormwater engineering
  • Knowledge of standards for the design and construction of deep utilities (water, sanitary and storm) and surface works (asphalt and concrete)
  • Previous experience reviewing erosion and sediment control plans, drawings and reports would be an asset
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of Municipal Policies and Procedures as well as an understanding of Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation
  • A valid Class 5 Driver\'s Licence (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, flexibility/adaptability, initiative and accountability to establish priorities and meet client expectations/deadlines
  • Ability to manage time to meet deadlines on a variety of projects concurrently
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy to establish effective working relationships in order to solve problems and resolve conflict

Additional Information:

This full time (37.5 hours per week) includes a comprehensive benefits package.
