The Mortgage Broker Underwriter is responsible for evaluating mortgage applications submitted by borrowers through the mortgage brokers. This role involves analyzing financial documentation, verifying the accuracy of loan data, assessing creditworthiness, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and lender requirements. The underwriter must make informed decisions regarding loan approval or denial, all while minimizing the lender's risk.
Preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to:
The successful candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of lending guidelines, regulations and processes
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or related field
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail with the ability to assess complex financial documents and make informed, risk- conscious decisions
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex underwriting decisions to brokers clearly
Excellent time management and organizational skills
The successful candidate must operate with a high level of integrity and customer service orientation and have experience working with and balancing cash.
