DescriptionThe Ministry Assistant Coordinator provides holistic leadership to community-based programs. Supports and encourages discipleship and spiritual growth within the church family and Community Ministries. Assist Corps Officer (Pastor) providing spiritual care to all age groups, implementing discipleship programs, and supports in worship services.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Program\xc2\xb7 Organize and oversee community-based programs (foodbank, vouchers, seniors\' programs, youth programs, music programs, seasonal celebrations (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas), summer camps, vacation bible school, Christmas assistance)\xc2\xb7 Ensure programs are aligned and comply with The Salvation Army policies and standards and reflect client needs due to changing socioeconomic and continuous quality improvement initiatives through ongoing planning.\xc2\xb7 Ensure programs have a spiritual focus and this may require sharing the gospel of Jesus and praying with clients.\xc2\xb7 Establish ways to connect the community with the church community.\xc2\xb7 Develop, organize and mobilize outreach programs for the community.\xc2\xb7 Build and maintain networks with The Salvation Army and community social providers to coordinate resources for clients.Church Ministry\xc2\xb7 Assists in ministry with Corps Officer (Pastor), contributing to the spiritual and pastoral development of individuals associated with the church through mentoring, discipleship, encouraging Christian attributes.\xc2\xb7 Assists in developing, implementing, evaluating programs / ministries for church and community.\xc2\xb7 Active member of the congregation and participates in Sunday Worship, which may include leading worship, preaching, and praying as requested by Corps Officer (Pastor).\xc2\xb7 Creates opportunities for Youth to be engaged in worship (IE. Messy Church)\xc2\xb7 Follow up with youth who attend The Salvation Army Summer Camp to build relationships and establish active links with the Church and its mission and Ministries.\xc2\xb7 Strategizes creative ideas for youth programming.\xc2\xb7 Supports integrated mission connecting community with Church.Volunteer Management\xc2\xb7 Recruit volunteers for events and activity efforts, as well as all necessary support, resources and supplies.\xc2\xb7 Support Community Ministry volunteers in completion of responsibilities relating to programs.\xc2\xb7 Ensure ongoing volunteer training, including orientation of new volunteers.Administrative\xc2\xb7 Maintain records and provide program evaluations and/or statistical information as required by DHQ/THQ; includes maintain Link2Feed.\xc2\xb7 Perform administrative tasks that support program objectives.\xc2\xb7 Provide input into the program budget, in collaboration with the Corps Officer, ensuring diligent stewardship of resources.\xc2\xb7 Ensure all donated items are safely and accurately handled.\xc2\xb7 Develop and/or implement policies and procedures, inclusive of safety and security.\xc2\xb7 Attends meetings as required by the Corps OfficerQUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed post-secondary diploma in human services or social services or equivalent of at least two academic years.
  • Post-secondary religious studies are a strong asset.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge:
  • Minimum one year of experience in a ministry setting.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity and/or volunteer management.
  • Ability to play piano would be preferred.
  • Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the standards, policies and procedures of The Salvation Armyor willingness to learn it within the first 3 months after hire.
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Innovative - proven ability to think \xe2\x80\x9coutside the box\xe2\x80\x9d to engage community for ministry outreach.
  • Possess a passion for the spiritual development and well-being of church members.
  • Understand and agree with the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability and willingness to participate fully in the life of this church as a part of the worshipping congregation.
  • Ability to use social media (advertise, create videos, posters)
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Problem solving, communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Demonstrate a healthy sense of boundaries and a positive attitude.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training and willingness to learn and develop skills.
  • Able to lift up to 20 lbs. or up to 40 lbs. with assistance from others.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Valid Alberta class 5 driver\'s license.

DAYS and HOURS of work: Monday - Friday 8:30 - 4:00pm (1/2 unpaid lunch). Willingness to work some evenings and weekends to meet program needs.
