invites applications for a

Marketing Assistant Coordinator

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


The Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) in the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) at the University of Calgary consists of over 300 scientists and clinician scientists, 500 trainees and 500 staff who work together towards the Institute's mission to inspire discovery and apply knowledge towards innovative solutions for neurological and mental health disorders. The HBI is one of Canada's leading centers of excellence in brain and mental health research and education. The Institute also leads the University's campus-wide Brain and Mental Health (BMH) research strategy on behalf of the Vice-President (Research). The BHM research strategy unites over 400 researchers across nine faculties under a shared discovery-based research framework. The Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research & Education is a centre dedicated to advancing research and education on early identification, treatment and prevention of mental illness.


Reporting primarily to the Manager, Communications, this position will provide communication and marketing support to the HBI and Mathison Centre. The position requires effective ongoing communication and collaboration with other HBI staff, and HBI faculty members and their trainees. The individual will be required to work both independently and in a fast paced team environment with frequent deadlines and shifting priorities. Work duties outside of normal office hours will be infrequent, but may be required.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):


Social Media:


Coordinate newsletter and email marketing, with direction by the Manager, Communications Organise communication tactics (including email lists) in accordance with the priorities of the HBI Build and maintain a content calendar of activities to support overarching marketing plans Develop compelling web and social media content for the Mathison Centre and Hotchkiss Brain Institute, and support web content development for the Hotchkiss Brain Institute under the guidance of the Manager, Communications Curate HBI and Mathison's social media presence to keep followers engaged and educated. Actively interact with followers and target audiences to increase engagement Coordinate live social media coverage at events and collection of content for future posts Edit collected photographs and video into short form social media videos for various social media platforms Analyze the performance of digital marketing communications Provide HBI leadership with analytics to make informed decisions on social media marketing Contribute to organization wide decisions that pertain to marketing and communication Work closely with HBI and Mathison members to share their work with the public

Event Organization, Coordination, and Execution:

Work with the HBI and Mathison to support events Make pertinent decisions about events to ensure reputation of HBI is priority

Qualifications / Requirements:



At least 6 months communication experience in a professional environment Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or other related field Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office software Extensive experience using social media scheduling tools and understanding associated analytics (hootsuite, Later) Familiarity with editing tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop Familiarity with video editing tools such as a CapCut, Adobe Rush, Premiere High level of ability to translate complex subjects into simple language Respectful, collaborative approach to working with various stakeholders in the HBI and Mathison community High level of problem solving abilities and uses research and analysis to solve complex problems Familiarity with Drupal 8, Livewhale and Marketo are assets
