Our Team:

This position will report to the Copper Cliff Mine (CCM) Complex Mines Technical Services (MTS) Manager and will work closely with the Operational Readiness Manager and team assigned to support the different FELs and Projects. This role will be supporting Operational Readiness requirements outlined in our project delivery processes.

The Opportunity

The Mining Project Specialist is responsible to ensure project work meets the technical and business needs of the mine. This is done through assessment of project work in mine design & planning, trade-off studies, cost estimation, technical reviews and project evaluations. Based out of the CCM Complex, this role will focus on (but not be limited to) the 860 Vent Project (currently in execution), the Phase 3 Mine Expansion Project (in FEL3 as well as in early execution) and the Phase 4 Mine Expansion Project (in FEL2).

The Mining Project Specialist will also be expected to identify and help implement improvement ideas of value engineering, while ensuring the projects are safely delivering to approved scope, cost, schedule and other quality objectives. This role will be supporting Operational Readiness requirements outlined in our project delivery processes and will report to the CCM Complex MTS Manager, while working closely with the Operational Readiness Manager (and associated teams) assigned to support the aforementioned FELs and Projects.

Additionally, within this position you be expected to:

  • Manage interactions between consulting, project, and owners\xe2\x80\x99 teams ensuring the operations best interests.
  • Participate in the mine design input for the project Technical Assurance Reviews, Quantitative Risk Assessments, Engineering Assessments and Maturity Assessments and ensuring follow-up actions are completed.
  • Participate in the preparation of mine design and schedule optimization, ensuring project value engineering opportunities are identified.
  • Lead the integration of projects and Life of Mine Plan (LOMP) updates and validations.
  • Identify gaps for funding between project scope and operations current infrastructure and workings that would prevent projects from starting work due to assumptions made in the FEL process.
  • Generate and ensure project scopes of work, key inputs and schedules align with annual budget and LOMP milestones
  • Responsible for review of mine designs, mine plans, operating costs, capital costs and schedules for FEL 1, FEL 2, FEL 3 studies and supporting projects in execution.
  • Ensure project documentation such as mine designs, production plans, technical reports, and study decisions are received, commented on, responded to, and incorporated in project files as required by the operational readiness processes and MTS internal processes.
  • Ensure measurement of progress on all contracts for reporting progress to the different managers and as required.
  • Review and provide inputs to budgets, forecasts and resourcing plans for projects and Operations LOMP
  • Assist in developing the risk register by identifying risks associated with the project at each study level
  • Ensure appropriate controls for identified risks are developed and tracked to execution as per operational readiness requirements.
About You

Education:
  • Bachelor (or equivalent) of Engineering in appropriate discipline.
  • P. Eng, Chartered Engineer, or home country equivalent.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 15 years engineering experience is required.
  • PMP qualification is an asset.
Skills:
  • Experience with Project Management and managing FEL 1/2/3 level studies.
  • Extensive experience in the study, design, development and/or operation of underground mines
  • Must have proficiency in mine planning software packages, (i.e, Deswik)
  • Strong understanding of mine dewatering, ventilation, geomechanics and mining infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of industry standards in mineral resource and mineral reserve estimation and compliance with public disclosure regulations
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to present detailed and complicated concepts and information succinctly.
  • Ability to evaluate alternative options and recommend preferred solution while outlining benefits and downside risks.
  • Ability to work with various groups and gain alignment.
