GHD is seeking a dedicated leader experienced with client service, project/program management, and strategic planning experience in the lower mainland area. We also are looking to leverage our leading corporate and regional experience in IWM and Mining to expand our Mining team in Canada. As a

Mine Water Management Technical Lead

, you will combine your deep knowledge of the water industry with strategy development skills and a passion for problem solving, to help our teams and clients develop sustainable, livable and climate resilient water solutions. Technical desired areas of expertise include water supply and drought, water resources, surface water infrastructure, hydraulics and hydrology, storm water and flood management, watershed planning and green infrastructure.


The successful candidate will have strong leadership, collaboration, business development, project/program management, and technical engineering skills.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:



Needs Assessment: Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues. Improvement/Innovation: Identify shortcomings in existing business practices, then suggest and implement improvements while developing and delivering projects or a work stream within the organization's change management program. Involves working with guidance from senior colleagues. Culture of Innovation: Drive a culture of innovation by creating multistakeholder solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration across business units, such as idea generation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons. Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards. Engineering Standards Specification: Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants. Knowledge Management: Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices in a particular area of expertise and to support the practice. Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/application software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users' needs. Professional Supervision: Lead and oversee the provision of professional supervision to ensure that there is effective professional supervision that supports practitioners' professional development and embeds reflective practice. Feasibility Studies: Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure. Product and Solution Development: Analyze and evaluate the feasibility and relevance of proposed complex products and services and develop and amend, as necessary, with guidance from senior colleagues. May also be responsible for supervising activities performed by a product development or specialist team. Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues. Client & Customer Management (External): Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues, or oversee relationship management with a group of more transactional clients and customers. Serving as Technical Lead, Project Director, and/or Project Manager on key mining and water projects Directing projects including technical work delivery, budget, schedule, and communications for both large, and small multi-disciplinary projects Developing technical engineered solutions for surface water projects including water balance, water quality, erosion and scour protection, river engineering, stormwater management, and flood mitigation Designing surface water management infrastructure from concept level to construction documentation including detailed design, tender documentation, and conducting field reviews Collaborate with and facilitate technical inputs from people across the GHD business Guide the development of project methodologies including technical innovations and best practices Guide modelling and other technical analyses Manage the preparation of technical reports and studies Guide the preparation of options assessments, business cases and investment planning. Review and provide quality assurance on reports and technical documentation Ensuring delivery quality and client satisfaction

Education



Bachelor Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Master's degree or PhD would be considered an asset Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in Ontario. Would be considered an asset to also be licensed in Nova Scotia, Quebec or British Columbia

Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes Minimum 15+ years' experience working in the civil / public works arena with municipal, provincial, and Federal clients A seller-doer mindset and commitment to serve our clients that will contribute to the long-term and lasting growth of GHD's business. Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to take a holistic view of a problem Comfortable presenting in front of Executive and Technical audiences Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong planning and strategy development skills Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision to tight deadlines Proven experience leading and managing teams
