Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of grades and previous general equipment operation/maintenance experience in road construction is required
Some road milling experience is a definite asset
Knowledge of grades: cross slops, super elevations, offset grades, swales, etc. an asset
Minimum class 5 driver's license with driver's abstract meeting Miller expectations
Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot with assistance is an asset
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent attendance, with a positive employment record with a team player attitude
Ability to operate in a fast paced and demanding environment in a safe and effective manner
Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others; team player who is willing to help in all areas; excellent customer service skills
Must have high attention to detail and the ability to work and think critically
Outdoor work in the elements; availability for overtime, some weekends and holidays; travel is required
Day in the Life
We're seeking a Milling Machine Groundperson to be the secret ingredient in our recipe for success! The oil that keeps our operation running smoothly, mixing, pouring, and paving the way to excellence. Embrace the heat, grit, and grind as you assist in the creation of building the roads of tomorrow. As a Milling Machine Groundperson, you will be responsible for operating and controlling ground functions on the milling machine while maintaining the desired depth and slope as required. You may also be required to measure milled areas, track quantities, and complete reports. Key responsibilities include machine maintenance, such as tooth changing, monitoring the auto greaser, and assisting with clean-up to maximize efficiency. You will evaluate upcoming pathways for potential obstacles and address any interruptions in progress.
In the Foreman's absence, you will act as the first point of contact for any issues on-site. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Strong communication will also be important as you operate two-way radios and other communication devices to ensure you are always in touch with the crew.
