The Opportunity:

Beginning the 2023-24 academic year, we are seeking an innovative and dynamic leader in the role of International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) Coordinator. Reporting to the Head, Academics and Professional Learning, the IB MYP Coordinator is responsible for providing curriculum expertise and knowledge to, and coordination of, the curriculum and activities related to the MYP program across disciplines in Grades 7-10.

Working closely and in collaboration with the Primary Years Program and Diploma Program Coordinators, the Assistant Heads, Student Experience, the Coordinators for MYP Core, Service Learning and CAS, as well as Instructional Leaders, the successful candidate will ensure excellence in implementing the MYP at Branksome while aligning with the School\xe2\x80\x99s overall objectives. An MYP and curricular expert, the Coordinator will develop and lead professional learning circles, and provide shoulder-to-shoulder coaching, support and feedback to faculty in unit design, internal standardisation of assessment, and application of IB and OCT Standards. The successful candidate will teach one MYP course in their academic discipline and supervise Personal Project Students. The Coordinator will have some operational administrative responsibilities tied to the support of student learning in Grades 7-10.

The Coordinator brings a creative and innovative approach when developing templates and tools to support best practice while investigating new programs and incorporating new initiatives, developing and coordinating the scope and sequence for the Approaches to Teaching and Learning and oversight of the development of interdisciplinary units of inquiry in Grades 7-10.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Academic administration including, but not limited to, registering students for Personal Project, maintenance of IBIS including student mark entry, organization and completion of the 5-year MYP evaluation, etc.;
  • Provide leadership to Service Learning to support development of action from learning and action for learning in Grades 7-10 units of inquiry;
  • Lead the development of written curriculum across Grades 7-10 and working shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers;
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head, SMS Academics to ensure best practices in assessment, including application of MYP level descriptors;
  • Evaluate correspondence between written and taught curricula;
  • Regularly visiting classes;
  • Act as an expert in MYP principles and practices for all new and existing faculty and provide best practice, pedagogy, resources and learning materials that align with their goals and the MYP;
  • Participate in school wide leadership initiatives and committees, for example, Management Team (MT), IB Continuum Team, Grade 7-8 and 9-10 Student Experience Teams, Lead Learning team;
  • Supervise the MYP Core Coordinator and Service Learning Coordinator;
  • Review curricular related Field Trip Forms trips for Gr. 7\xe2\x80\x93 10;
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary learning experiences, including IDU Week and BHX (Toronto, Jeju and alternate program) curriculum development and logistics;
  • Conduct student discipline with regard to academic misconduct in Grades 7-10.
Candidate Profile:

As the ideal candidate, you possess an Ontario Teaching Certificate, or equivalent, IB training, knowledge of the IB MYP requirements along with 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience teaching the IB Middle Years Program. Equivalent combinations of experience and qualifications will be considered. With your experience in curriculum development and leading professional learning you are an impactful leader with the ability to mentor and inspire faculty with regards to best practices in teaching and learning. Your knowledge of models of inquiry of the various disciplines and commitment to Approaches to Teaching and Learning make you an expert in the MYP. The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with a range of constituents across the School as well as externally. Strong communication skills support your ability to build rapport and credibility to work across disciplines. IB Educators\xe2\x80\x99 Network (IBEN) membership would be considered an asset. Strong technology, superior understanding of the MYP planner, organisational and time management skills as well as proficiency in MS office applications complete your profile.
