Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate all controls and instrumentation in manufacturing and packaging areas, as well as facilities.
  • Find ways to improve job efficiency and reduce labour costs.
  • Try to minimize down time when calibrating and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze relative benefits of replacement or repair from cost benefit aspect.
  • Trend calibration metrics and support root cause analysis for out of trend results.
  • Support the resolution of out of trend instrumentation problems.
  • Schedule workload in communication with production in order to complete monthly workload. Troubleshoot problems, providing guidance to maintenance when instrumentation is not involved, and to production to ensure avoidance of recurrence of failure.
  • When confronted with breakdown or instrument failure, after troubleshooting, to find the most efficient way to return to normal production. Lead instrumentation and controls troubleshooting as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, including mechanics, electricians, and OEM.
  • Understand operation of all new equipment.
  • Maintain competence with all software involved in work.ie: Office, CMMS, Specific programs for various dataloggers, Siemans Insight, Johnson Controls, Allen-Bradley, and many more.
  • Support the training of site engineering/operations on instrumentation and controls.
  • Ensure selection of new and replacement equipment is suitable for application.
  • Support project teams during design, calibration, commissioning, start-up, training and handover phases of projects.
  • Assist planners in solving scheduling problems.
  • Schedule outside contractors if necessary, when work load requires.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to ensure replacements and new equipment is properly specified and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Using flexibility in planning and scheduling work in order to best accommodate production objectives
  • May assume leadership when job is multidisciplinary. IE: Working with contractors or Maintenance personnel.


Qualifications


  • Engineering Technician Diploma in industrial instrumentation/engineering (or equivalent, i.e. electronic technician diploma coupled with related work experience).
  • Advanced knowledge of instrumentation and controls including process controls, building controls, control signal types, signal conversion, CMMS system, and good documentation practices. Also, an in-depth knowledge of instrument types, instrument selection process (including assessment of accuracy, repeatability, precision, etc.), failure modes, etc. is required.
