THIS POSITION SUPPORTS TWO CAMPUS LOCATIONS. The incumbent will be located in both Orillia and Barrie.

Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Well-being, the incumbent is a self-directed, motivated team player with commitment to ongoing professional development, who is responsible for providing intake and risk assessment, triage and referral service and system navigation support for students seeking mental health and well-being resources. They will collaborate with students to co-create individual plans for service access. Ex) Review student strengths and needs and match with available resources within stepped care model, based on student preference. The incumbent will design engaging social media and other communication materials to increase student MH literacy and knowledge of available supports. The incumbent will be assisting in the development and delivery of innovative and easily accessible mental health and well-being programming, designed to support student connections to the college community through activities for increased engagement, social interaction and peer support. In addition, they will be developing alliances and outreach across the Georgian College system in order to appropriately and effectively refer students, within a stepped care model. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Intake Assessment, Triage and Referral
o Conducting initial assessment of students presenting with mental health and well-being concerns to determine strengths and presenting concerns, screen for risks of suicide, thought and/or behaviours
o Triaging and providing warm referrals to appropriate resources within stepped care model based on urgency, risk and presenting needs
o Providing system navigation support for students seeking mental health and well-being resources and other relevant student success supports
o Following- up with student to ensure appropriate connection was established
  • Supporting Stepped Care Model
o Leading drop-in activities, workshops, group programming that is ground in evidence, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and demonstrate cultural-competence to support MHWB and student success
o Delivering services, described above, in a professional and culturally sensitive manner that is responsive to the needs of the student, while handling personal issues raised in a sensitive and confidential manner
o Collaborating with GCSA to increase student participation in mental health activities
o Maintaining appropriate documentation in adherence with legislation regarding confidentiality and privacy
o Collaborating with multiple stakeholders to support student wayfinding and increase ease of student system navigation
  • Systems Support
o Coordinating the development of marketing and communication assets, including digital and print MHWB resources for delivery via social media and other channels (MHWB Instagram, Bear Necessities Newsletter, student and employee portals, Georgian College website etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully completed a three-year postsecondary diploma/degree or equivalent in the field of social work or counselling psychology
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • Two years experience in triage, using and applying assessment tools, crisis response and conflict resolution
  • ASIST trained, or experience completing suicide risk assessment
  • Experience with referrals to community resources and supports
  • Experience developing and facilitating MH workshops and group programming, both virtually and in person
  • Experience marketing and communicating MH related information via social media, and other channels
  • Experience in a mental health environment
  • Experience working with Post-secondary students preferred
  • Completion of LivingWorks ASIST
  • Strong assessment and interpersonal skills
  • Awareness of their own attitudes, beliefs, biases, and assumptions about others as well as various dimensions of diversity, including gender, race, and ethnicity.
  • Cultural knowledge of key populations that will be served to address disparities that exist as it relates to students at Georgian College
  • Mindfulness Without Borders Facilitator experience an asset
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT, etc.)
  • Ability to support 2 campus locations (Orillia and Barrie)
