WAHC is hiring a Membership and Donor Associate.

The Workers Arts and Heritage Centre\xe2\x80\x99s mandate is to bring together and celebrate all working people (paid and unpaid) through art, history and culture, enabling a stronger, more connected community. WAHC is located in the James Street North neighbourhood in Hamilton, in a designated heritage building, the Custom House, on the territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe. WAHC is a community museum and multidisciplinary arts centre \xe2\x80\x93 we program contemporary exhibitions, arts events and semi-permanent exhibits as they relate to our mandate. We support contemporary professional artists with a focus on social practice and community engagement, and foster and promote arts that can be accessed by a wide range of audiences. We also have developed digital projects that honour and preserve the culture of working people, past and present. Our organizational values include solidarity, equity and inclusion and dignity.

We are currently seeking a development professional for the limited term position of Membership and Donor Associate. The successful candidate will execute a project to audit, strategize and execute a revamped membership and donor program to integrate into WAHC\xe2\x80\x99s broader development activities. The Membership and Donor Associate will help lay the groundwork for WAHC to reimagine how it cultivates individual donor/member support and build financial resilience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Phase One \xe2\x80\x93 Research:

  • Conduct internal review of past donor/member activities/incentives;
  • With the Executive Director, review the new Ontario Non-Profit Corporations Act (2021) as it relates to membership structures;
  • Design and conduct environmental scan of WAHC stakeholders examining donor/member behaviors and desires;
  • Research relevant membership structures at Canadian art galleries and museums, and the cultural sector;
  • Produce report of proposed new individual donations model, share and consult with WAHC staff on next steps.
Phase Two \xe2\x80\x93 Design and Delivery:
  • Design, test, and evaluate small-scale individual donor solicitation activities;
  • Support spring fundraiser event including promotion and integration of the new individual donor program/model;
  • Launch member/donor program, for roll out to coincide with the Spring season launch;
  • Build comprehensive workplan, including transition and maintenance of membership and donor initiatives and incentives to be incorporated into ongoing development activities;
  • Roll out/evaluate membership/donor activities, evaluate/document learnings.
We are looking for someone who is a progressive thinker, supportive and understanding of equity and inclusion, is adaptable, has initiative and has an appreciation for what WAHC does, and our mission/vision/values.

Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • demonstrated development experience within a non-profit, arts organization and/or museum setting;
  • excellent research skills;
  • should have some understanding/knowledge of the history and culture of the labour movement, and a keen interest in connecting art, history and heritage;
  • sound verbal and written communication skills;
  • excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively within a staff team;
  • self-motivated, flexible and adaptable; ability to multi-task and be self-directed;
  • experience with social media for nonprofits and proficient computer skills;
  • literacy around customer relationship management (CRM) technology and online fundraising and communication tools is an asset.
