Clinic Details \xe2\x80\x94 Royal Inland Hospital:
The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 273-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 72,000 visits per year. Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services Support services including a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, two CT scans, and Echocardiography. RIH also features, Stroke Thrombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage. \xe2\x80\xa2 Flexibility within the leadership role to design what works for you\xe2\x80\xa2 Fast-paced Tertiary hospital with high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services Support services This is a 0.7 FTE position with a two-year term renewable by mutual agreement between Interior Health and the individual for up to 10 years. Previous administration experience is required. Job sharing will be considered if both candidates are fully able to do the job.
As the Chief of Staff, you will be expected to be a physician administrator and medical leader who works to achieve a collaborative relationship between physicians and administration in Interior Health based on our organizational culture and objectives.
This role will include supporting a high-functioning tertiary hospital in continuous quality improvement, supporting departments in recruitment, credentialing and privileging, and leading physician engagement and development throughout the site.
You will have the opportunity to work with an enthusiastic team of physicians and operational leaders in developing and implementing new programs serving the needs of the population of Kamloops and Interior Health. How you will make an Impact
1. Leads the medical staff in implementing the \xe2\x80\x9cOne IH\xe2\x80\x9d Quality, Risk & Accreditation Vision, Mission and Goals\xe2\x80\xa2 Chairs the local quality committee or co-chairs it with another member of the management team (this duty may be delegated to another qualified member of the Medical Staff but, if so, the Site Chief of Staff must be an active member of the committee)\xe2\x80\xa2 Ensures that the Site Quality Committee is aligned and engaged with the Regional Quality Committee, Interior Quality and Excellence Steering Team (iQUEST), the IH Quality Core Leadership Team and all IH QR&A strategic goals\xe2\x80\xa2 Mentors and coaches those physicians appointed to quality committees\xe2\x80\xa2 Actively participates and ensures physician participation in risk management and accreditation activities
2. Leads the development, implementation and adherence to the medical staff resource plan and the IH physician recruitment, credentialing, privileging, appointment and reappointment processes\xe2\x80\xa2 Oversees local medical staff resource planning and recruitment by working with the local Medical Staff, Local Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), Regional MAC, and Executive Medical Director to develop and keep current a physician resource plan for the site\xe2\x80\xa2 Ensures that the physician recruitment, appointment and reappointment process complies with the appropriate IH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Policies; provides secretariat services for this process
3. Ensures physician professional conduct and manages the performance, behaviour and, if necessary, discipline of members of the Medical Staff\xe2\x80\xa2 Is accountable for medical governance as outlined in the IH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Policies\xe2\x80\xa2 Models professional, respectful behaviour in the work place\xe2\x80\xa2 Manages clinical performance issues wherever they are identified in the site, manages disruptive physician behaviour in accordance with IH policies, and works to develop rehabilitation programs for physicians whose performance/behaviour does not meet acceptable standards\xe2\x80\xa2 Addresses complaints against physicians in a proactive and timely manner, making sure all appropriate steps are followed and documented in accordance with IH policies
4. As a physician and clinical expert, obtains the necessary knowledge and training to participate in full alignment with the Hospital Senior Management Team; engages the Medical Staff in understanding and helping to execute the management plan\xe2\x80\xa2 As an active member of the Site Senior Leadership Team, participates in all relevant administrative/operational functions such as budget planning, utilization management, and strategic planning\xe2\x80\xa2 Takes the lead in engaging medical staff members in understanding and implementing decisions made by the Senior Leadership Team as those decisions affect physicians\xe2\x80\xa2 Participates in the IH Physician Integration Leadership Development curriculum
5. Identifies, mentors and develops upcoming physician leaders\xe2\x80\xa2 Assists department heads to fulfill their roles and responsibilities effectively
6. Supports the IH academic mandate and its implementation at the hospital level
7. Actively leads annual performance reviews, coaching and reappointment of the site Department Heads
8. The salary for this position is a Range 15 and follows the HEABC provincial compensation plan for excluded positions. Qualifications:


    • \xe2\x80\xa2 Current licensure as an MD in BC.\xe2\x80\xa2 A Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in hospital, healthcare, business administration, or an equivalent degree is preferred.\xe2\x80\xa2 A minimum of 10 years of clinical practice experience and at least 5 years of progressively more responsible leadership experience in a healthcare environment.
