About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director Medical Affairs, the Senior Conflict Support Consultant is a subject matter expert resource to the medical leadership across Nova Scotia Health. They support physician conflict competence at the individual, team, and organizational levels. They provide province-wide leadership on complex conflict situations and toxic communication patterns, and work to develop and implement people-focused strategies to improve the physician culture, communication, and engagement. They identify situations that would benefit from alternative/appropriate dispute resolution services and design and implement strategic interventions, such mediation, facilitation, development, and coaching. They have expertise in the areas of behavior change management, performance management, workplace culture, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

They are accountable to research and deliver innovative conflict management and resolution solutions that are aligned with the client\'s business objectives and consistent with relevant policies, bylaws, legislation and the vision, mission, values and culture of NSH. Collaboration with various partners on the People Services team, such as the Sr. Respectful Workplace Consultant, is integral to the support of this role.

The Senior Conflict Support Consultant applies an equity, diversity and inclusion lens when consulting on all matters related to physicians, ensuring they support a culture of inclusion and aligned with NSH values.

Primary outcomes of the Senior Conflict Support Consultant include direct, conflict management and intervention, teaching and support to physician leaders and staff, team development, and improved engagement, culture and retention. They will build strong relationships within the physician community and key staff across the organization and with appropriate external groups and stakeholders.

This position can be mostly a virtual / remote position with provincial travel for mediation or in person training. The permanent location for this position is Charter Place, Spring Garden Road, Halifax

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master\'s Degree in a relevant discipline such as Conflict Studies, Organizational Development, Organizational Psychology, Adult Development, Social or Behavioral Sciences or Community Development, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Mediation Certificate required
  • Seven (7) years recent, related experience in conflict assessment, mediation, alternative dispute resolution, conflict resolution, facilitation, team development, and stakeholder engagement reqiored
  • One hundred fifty (150) hours training applicable to workplace conflict management, such as conflict analysis, coaching, group processes and interventions, psychometric assessments, change management, management of high conflict situations required.
  • Relevant training and/or designations in fields of practice such as Human Systems Dynamics is an asset.
  • Relevant certifications and training in Professional Coaching through an accredited body of the International Coach Federation (ICF) is an asset.
  • Experience working with senior leadership health leaders and understanding of health care culture and complex systems.
  • Clinical experience in healthcare, such Counselling or Social Work considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse and intercultural teams considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of organizational development and effectiveness, preferably within the health sector including adult learning methodologies, leadership practices, and related models and concepts.
  • Strong leadership development and training background.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-seeking groups, including those who experience intersectional barriers.
  • Applies expert understanding of team function assessment, team development and conflict resolution modalities and approaches, including best practices, and applies expert judgment in selecting appropriate approaches for various health care situations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new developments, trends and research in team development and conflict resolution, and recommends and implements best practices accordingly.
  • Applies knowledge and skill in organizational development, change management, and communication as well as an understanding of organizational policies, health care roles and responsibilities, and networking abilities to provide high-level recommendations.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, coaching, and relationship building skills. Demonstrates high level of trust, confidentiality, integrity, and leadership presence.
  • Adhere to applicable professional guidelines and especially in the areas of confidentiality, conflict of interest, and expertise. Abide by the organization\'s existing values, ethical practices, confidentiality, and Human Resource policies.
  • Understand organizational structures, systems, processes, and how to assess all these elements of the organization.
  • Understanding of evolving trends in the practice of organizational development and workplace culture.
  • Applies superior judgment and political expertise to communicate sensitive information to, and collaborate with, a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Permanent, Full-time position, 75 hrs bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$37.66 - $47.07 Hourly
