We recognize the land and waters that have inspired our work and offer gratitude to those Indigenous peoples on whose territory we work, live and play.About the roleCanadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our dynamic Distribution team in Calgary.The Distribution Team is integral to Canadian Blood Services as Canada's Lifeline. In this role, the Medical Laboratory Technologist I performs duties in the manufacture, release and distribution of blood products. Duties include review of production and testing records, supervision of production and distribution, release and distribution of products.Formula for Success:
  • Review production records/reports to ensure critical control points and time limitations are met
  • Support Quality Event Management processes
  • Review the status and resolve issues with quarantined units
  • Assist in training Medical Laboratory Technologists and Laboratory Attendants with departmental processes
  • Assist in end labelling of blood components
  • Assist in the area of inventory managements, as required
  • Managing rare blood and HLA inventory
  • Performs other related duties as required
Desired Education and Skills:
  • Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (ACMLT)
  • Minimum one year experience working in a laboratory
  • Experience with Transfusion Medicine / Red Cell Serology an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive public image of Canadian Blood Services when dealing with customers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
  • Superior problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to operate related equipment including a working knowledge of software applications in a Windows environment
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
