If that sounds like a challenge you want to help tackle, we want you to join our team!The OpportunityThe Facilities, Reliability & Integrity (FRI) Engineering Services team provides technical governance and expertise for technical disciplines that are critical to the design and construction of TC Energy assets. The team comprises deep technical subject matter expertise to resolve the most complex problems across the enterprise and influence external industry codes and standards that support TC Energys business.The team is evolving to meet the demands of the business and the FRI mandate. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who has industry and technical knowledge and experience in the mechanical engineering design and commissioning of rotating equipment and turbomachinery.The successful candidate will have proven skills and competencies to act as a technical authority on rotating equipment and turbomachinery standards, advise BU engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues, assure the effectiveness and improve standards and user enablement.What youll do

  • Act as the document contact and subject matter expert (SME) for engineering standards relating to the pre-qualification, design and commissioning of rotating equipment and turbomachinery on TC Energy assets.
  • Resolve variance requests and feedback submissions on rotating equipment and turbomachinery standards.
  • Maintain and improve engineering standards based on performance information such as variance trends, feedback, incident corrective actions, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to maintain and report an enterprise view of key technical risks and performance relating to the rotating equipment and turbomachinery discipline.
  • Monitor critical activities across the enterprise, and support and implement assurance activities to assure that standards are managing key technical risks.
  • As part of assurance activities, provide independent peer review of project deliverables to evaluate the compliance, quality and value of engineering delivery and implementation of turbomachinery standards.
  • Act as the business owner of enterprise tools that support the implementation or performance management of the rotating equipment and turbomachinery standards.
  • Collaborate with and provide technical advisory support to project engineering teams, engineering service providers and equipment vendors on complex technical issues relating to rotating equipment and turbomachinery in project and construction phases.
  • Advise BUs on procurement strategies, pre-qualification, contractual relationships, and performance management of key turbomachinery vendors.
  • Initiate and lead research and development projects to improve equipment design, engineering standards and/or methods.
  • Develop and lead the formulation and implementation of asset management maintenance strategies aimed at preventing equipment failures, mitigating risks, and enhancing reliability to optimize asset lifecycle value.
Minimum Qualifications
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering a
  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive relevant experience.
  • In depth knowledge of applicable industry regulations, codes and standards applicable to turbomachinery and relevant ancillary support systems.
  • Experience in the development and management of engineering standards, specifications and procedures.
  • Technical experience in engineering design, design oversight and quality assurance.
  • Owners Engineer experience in managing turbomachinery vendors and vendor relationships.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project or equipment vendor sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Graduate Degree in a related technical field is considered an asset.
  • Engineering expertise in rotating equipment and turbomachinery is essential. Preferred areas of expertise include: gas turbine and component design, equipment manufacturing and fabrication methods and quality standards, thermal performance, combustion and emissions performance, rotor-dynamics, and materials and metallurgy particular to gas turbines and driven equipment.
  • Experience with research and development, test and product validation processes, innovation and technology development associated with rotating equipment.
  • Experience in technical design audits of turbomachinery and associated ancillary systems.
  • Field commissioning experience and knowledge of startup processes considered an asset.
  • Experience with modern condition monitoring and prognostic analytical methods and their applicability to rotating equipment and turbomachinery.
  • Ability to support complex operability and failure investigations, when required.
  • Driven to achieve technical and business results balancing the needs of customers within technical, safety and regulatory boundaries.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and partner groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex issues to different levels of leadership.
  • Self-motivated and organized with strong time management skills.
  • Outstanding collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead engagement with stakeholders and SMEs across the organization.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills
