, a world-renowned expert in sustainable energy systems. This research program focuses on advancing mechanical systems for next-generation power converters, including renewable energy integration, energy storage, and sustainable infrastructure.
We are seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to pursue a
Master of Applied Science (MASc) or PhD
degree at UBC, contributing to cutting-edge projects in collaboration with a high-tech industry partner. The research will address mechanical design challenges for advanced energy management systems.
Research Focus Areas:
Mechanical design for energy management systems (EMS), including housing for solar, battery, generator, and EV integration modules.
Advanced thermal management strategies and optimization for high-efficiency power systems.
Design for Manufacturability (DfM) of components such as sheet metal and injection-molded parts.
Finite Element Analysis (FEM/FEA) for structural, thermal, and electromagnetic performance of power systems
CFD analysis and design optimization of liquid-cooled and air-cooled waste heat dissipation systems.
Experimental study of mechanical components under real-world operational conditions and harsh environments.
Reliability enhancement of power electronics through finite element and experimental methods
Material selection research for high-performing power components and insulation materials.
Collaborative development of scalable, reliable, cost-effective solutions for clean energy technologies.
Eligibility and Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required.
Strong interest in renewable energy, sustainability, and advanced mechanical systems is a bonus.
Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks), numerical simulation software (FEA, CFD), and design methodologies is a must.
Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) and tolerance analysis is an asset.
Excellent academic record and strong analytical skills is essential.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment is key.
Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python) are an asset but not mandatory.
