We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our Automation team, specializing in the design and development of fixtures and welding robotic automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, with expertise in creating precise, efficient, and innovative solutions for automated welding processes. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs that optimize manufacturing efficiency, ensure safety, and meet project specifications.

As a Mechanical Designer, you will:



Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of fixtures, tooling, and robotic welding systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar). Develop custom fixtures for welding applications, ensuring repeatability, precision, reach analysis and compatibility with robotic automation systems. Collaborate with automation team to design fixtures and components that integrate seamlessly with robotic welding systems, optimizing cycle times and weld quality. Specify appropriate materials for fixtures and components, considering factors such as durability, thermal resistance, safety and cost-effectiveness. Support the fabrication and testing of prototypes, analyzing performance and making iterative design improvements. Work closely with manufacturing, quality assurance, and automation team to ensure designs meet production requirements and industry standards. Prepare technical documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, and maintenance guidelines. Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, ISO) and safety regulations. Identify opportunities to enhance fixture designs and automation processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase reliability.

Mechanical Designer Requirements:



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or significant relevant experience may be considered. 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on fixtures, tooling, or robotic automation. Hands-on experience with welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, or robotic welding) is highly desirable. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD). Familiarity with robotic automation systems (e.g., FANUC, ABB) and their integration with fixtures. Understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, and welding. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for stress and thermal analysis. Familiarity with PLC programming or robotic simulation software (e.g., Roboguide, RobotStudio, Visual Components). Be willing to travel both domestically and internationally for work and training purposes. Hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba driver's license with clear driving abstract. Have computer experience using MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word). Be physically capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling weights of up to 75 lbs, as well as confident maneuvering equipment up to 1500 lbs (with proper lifting/pushing apparatus and techniques).
